    lenovo P720 SIO flash dump

Hi, the SIO firmware flash in my lenovo P720 seems to be corrupted, after a reboot POST fails with CPU1 fan failure and all fans set to max, proceeding with booting shows SIO FW no response.

I've tried using the lenovo sio update utility but that fails with "EC Autho Value not Match" when the system reboots for the update. The efi update tools has a S04FW.cap file but it's 256kb which seems too small?

Going off of what I found online I've tried it now with a rpi and flashprog and one of those springy clips connected with jumper cables but it just says `No EEPROM/flash device found` the couple times I tried repositioning. Gave up on it after around 10 mins don't want to mess things up further though I suspect I'll have to replace the IC anyway.

There's some SPI_DBG_HD soldering pads nearby but when I tried continuity with a multi meter I only got beeps on the bios chip that's closer not the SIO.

I could try reading with a ch341a that I used for my GPU but it's one of the chinese ones that aren't wired correctly for 3.3V so I'm afraid I'd just fry it, and I assume the 1.8V adapter just wouldn't be able to drive it. Soldering iron's not doing great so if I have to solder I'll have to go out and buy something better

Where did you get the S04FW.cap file from, can`t find it at https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/p...3-B07A93E0428C

Fixed: Lenovo P14s Gen 1 (type 20Y1, 20Y2) Laptop (ThinkPad) bricked by a withdrawn BIOS update (r1buj82w)
            by akwky
            Hi!
Went dumpster-diving and found a bricked Lenovo P14S in trash, few weeks earlier. Symptoms - no screen, no POST, no beep, just keyboard LEDs flashing on powerup. Mute button+LED was responding though, and the display self-test was still working (via the key combo Ctrl+Fn+Power held for some seconds, see the Service manual).

Incidentally, Windows 11 have recently started auto-flashing computer BIOS in our region. Even more suspiciously, Lenovo has released a BIOS update just few days before the PC was trashed. About a week later, the BIOS update image has been oficially marked...

Request: SPI Flash BIOS Dump (Winbond 25Q128) for Dahua NVR4216-4KS2
            by spmetroil
            Hello,

I am trying to repair a Dahua NVR4216-4KS2 that is not booting.
The main BIOS/firmware is stored in an SPI flash EEPROM (Winbond 25Q128, labeled as U130 on the PCB).

I have a CH341A programmer and I already attempted the following steps:
            1. Identified the correct chip (W25Q128, 3.3V SPI flash).
            2. Tried to read the contents with CH341A Programmer software. The dump seems corrupted and I often get the error: “Chip with the contents are in disagreement.”
            3. Compared several chip type selections (24Cxx and 25Qxx families) to confirm it is indeed a 25 series SPI
            ...

            Lenovo ThinkStation P720 BIOS Request
            by HammyCheesy
            Hello all,

I'm trying desperately to revive a ThinkStation P720 that I purchased from a seller who claims it suffered a "failed firmware update."

When given power, the machine turns on, spins up fans, beeps a single time, fans slow down, then a beep code is sounded repeatedly (3 high/short tones, 1 low/long tone).

            Type: 30BB
            Model Number: S03600
            S/N: MJ07N68C

            Things I have tried:

            1. Reseated all components, pulled everything except for 2 RAM modules (1 per CPU)
            2. Attempted to boot with just a single CPU...

Lenovo Legion T5-26AMR5 Desktop - Corrupt BIOS
            by grimacelord
            Hello there.

I am working on a Lenovo Legion T5-26AMR5 desktop that currently has a corrupt BIOS and I have been unsuccessful thus far in trying to fix it myself.

            History:

            1. This computer came to me initially with an error message that said "BiInitializeLibrary failed 0xc0000001" or "0135 fan error". It would always be one of the two errors. It should be noted that when it produced the fan error, there was no physical problem with the fans. They were all spinning just fine.

I searched for this error online and discovered...
