    Graphics card repair, Basic Measurements

    Hi everyone!
    The preface to this article is for those who are new to graphics card repair. I'm not as talented as mods or admins either.
    But in this article, I will guide you through the most basic things to quickly recognize the disease in each block, so that you can make a foundation as well as form a habit.

    Note! This article may or may not be true.

    Measurement: (must have boardview of course)
    Adjust the impedance scale

    12v block
    Measure the 12v fuses, see if they burn out.
    If the fuse blows, the risk of burning the pcb is quite high. When the PCB is burnt, the whole circuit can short 12v all the rails on the pcb.
    If the pcb is still ok and does not burn, the possibility of a short fet is high.

    5v block
    Measure 5v coil impedance to ground
    If the coil does not have a voltage of 5v, the coil must be removed to handle voltage loss first or voltage loss later.

    3.3v block
    Measure the impedance of pin 8 on the motherboard contacts
    If short, 100% gpu is dead

    1.8v block (Required voltage is always available)
    Measure coil impedance 1.8v
    Usually not short. The common disease is no voltage.

    Block 1.01v (or vboot 1.1v for 10th generation cards and below)
    Usually this block is not short

    GPU block
    Usually this block has very low internal resistance. So you don't need to care about this block very much. Because when measuring block 3.3v can ignore this block

    vRam block
    Usually this block has a low internal resistance of 3.5 - 4.7ohm. If internal returns to 0, then surely 1 or 1 pair of ram is dead.
    ** This line voltage theory is 1.5 even d5 or d6. In fact, when operating, the voltage ranges from 1.3 to 1.4v.

    Focus and work quickly. You only need to measure 12v and 3.3v blocks. unit

    Loss of voltage in one of these blocks has about 90% chance of causing card not detected error and 10% causing "!" legendary
    PC work for schemaltic:
    Mainboard: Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4
    CPU: I3-3240
    Ram: 16Gb
    Graphic Card: GTX 1050Ti zotac 4Gb Mini
    SSD: 120Gb
    HDD: 2Tb

    Hi,

    A colleague gave me an apparently ill CORSAIR CX600.
    He told me that he heard a banging noise, and smelt the magic smoke.
    After tearing down the PSU, no burnt component, everything seems OK, but the PSU often refuses to stay ON. When shorting PS_ON to GND, the fan spins a bit a finally stops. No output voltages.

    I tried to treat some apparently bad solder joins and finally it seems to work OK... on the 12V and 5V rails!
    It's another story on the 3.3V rail...

    I have some devices to test deeply PSUs (scope, AC source, electronic load)...

    Hello everyone! This is my first post and this motherboard is driving me crazy because everything looks so non-trivial that I don't know where to start investigating. During these days I believe I watched half of the YouTube videos trying to understand how to troubleshoot power cycles but at the same time, I'm confused because my motherboard doesn't always do that and sometimes completes the POST for a few seconds: the right amount of time to freeze, show glitches on the screen, and then reset itself.

    Let me give you a bit more context to understand why and how we got here.

    Hi guys!

    I'm in need of some support so I can try to fix my laptop/gpu.
    While I am a cerified automotive mechatronic, I have only basic understanding of electronics repair and identification.
    I'd like to identify the issue and replace the specific component myself to learn about electronics and expand my skills a bit.
    No better time than now, when my laptop, Alienware 18 from 2013, shut down when playing and refused to start again.
    I know about electric diagnostics in and about cars, but I've never dabbled with electronics.

    How to correctly measure a mixed low&high current

    Hi there!
    Im trying to determine the consumtion rates of a module Im testing. Particularly it's a Decawave DWM1001 module, which is expected to use around nanoamps during normal state so a LiFePo4 battery should last months

    This module has peak spikes of around 100mA once a second, while the TX module is active, and then goes to sleep for the rest of the time (this is when the uA rates are expected)

    But I'm having issues to measure this current.

    1.-Using a multimeter. Obviously all I see is values jumping all the time, as this is not expected...

    This is my first post out there, glad to be part of the community.


    I was gifted an old analog mixing unit (from the 70s) by a good friend. It's a Neptune Audio Mixer model 611, 6 channel mixer with :

    -6 XLR inputs wired hot to 3, and 1&2 to ground (which is already a weird start. You can see this in Picture 3, and all sockets are what I understand to be common ground, as there's a long wire connecting all XLR grounds together. Besides, all Hot are connected to the other pins via a cap with the marking 24 102k)
