Fake GPUs on eBay and elsewhere

Was searching for GPUs. All such a ripoff right now. But just seeing if I happened to find a good deal. Personally I'm fine w/ the (legit) GTX1050 in my main PC. Good enough for the 10 mins of gaming I do every month. But we're trying to build a gaming PC for the BF on a budget and for now I lent him a little Optiplex I stuffed a 1030 in but was just hoping for something better.

    Anyway, found this crap: https://www.ebay.com/itm/194206843675

Obviously fake since it has a VGA port. Reported it as well as another one I found from a different seller. I know it's really a waste of time since they'll just make a new account and new listing but at least I'm inconveniencing them a bit and that makes me smile.

Hopefully they remove it. Although they never say "nVidia" or "GeForce" it's still obviously a rip off.

Anyone actually bought these? I see reports of it on forums here and there and they're often like 400 or 500 series cards with screwed up BIOS.

A known fake, with that shroud! (with those stripes!)

I recommend that you flag a lot more of them on eBay!

Re: Fake GPUs on eBay and elsewhere

Im currently using 2x of them in SLI with a bios reflash, it was quite a pain to find the right combination of BIOS and Driver for it to work. In the end i cant even play online games with cheat detection.
I tried to get them for free on ALIEXPRESS, but they only refunded me about 30 bucks. instead of the entire amount ($150 iirc). They offered for me to return them at my cost, but you know how it is shipping something to China, it would be more than what I paid.

Its just a GTS450 which its probably cheaper just to find a GTS450 second hand and use that without having to worry about all the bullshit that comes with fake cards.

ALSO one other thing I would like to point out, is that the 6PIN PCIE power plugs on these are not proper, I believe they are somehow joined to the PCIE 12v circuit, This is my theory because if you dont plug it in, the card will still boot where they shouldnt. Also I tried running an external PSU to power the GPUS, this is usually fine because they are separate circuits. but all sorts of stange things would happen like my computer staying on after shutdown and such. It usually works fine on other GPUs. It would also crash on high load all the time.

            Yeah, totally agree
It just happened so that I watched this video about a week ago and this particular information was new to me ( I'm not interested in pc/laptop hardware ) so just wanted to share it with other fellas who also do not follow that topic.

By the way, I find Linus videos very useful... when I want to go to sleep.

Backlight strip quality, Amazon vs Ebay vs ShopJimmy. Is there really a difference?
                  by DXseekerMO
                  Hello everyone!

Recently I've noticed that some ShopJimmy backlight strips don't have double-sided tape installed upon them when an application calls for it, and I must purchase the tape separately. In a recent chat conversation with a customer service agent I told them if this tape wasn't applied when it was called for I would begin to consider ordering my backlight strips elsewhere. It looks like this time may have come.

I recently got a TCL 65S4 with bad backlights. After looking at the SJ listing here: https://www.shopjimmy.com/tcl-jl-d65...365as-m-led-ba...

how do you resolve problems with ebay (and other shop) scammers!?
                  by myth77
When i need to replace cpu or gpu or pch ...i mostly order reballed chip from china, but lately there are more broken ones then working.
So lately i tried with ebay "not working motherboards". I ordered a few broken motherboards from ebay but i have found out that there are many scammers on ebay. The most of them are selling already destroyed motherboards with pictures in low resolution, some of them are being scammed and just scam forwarding...
First board i ordered last month was ok. Cpu was dead but i could use gpu and pch. The second arrived 2 weeks ago...and it was...

                  Fake Caps in Xbox 360
                  by Galraedia
I decided to take one of the Rubycon capacitors out of a phat Xbox 360 with a Zephyr motherboard and noticed that all the Rubycon capacitors near the CPU were fake. The capacitors in question are Rubycon MFZ 680uf 6.3V and they all have a bullseye bottom, something not found in genuine Rubycon capacitors. None of them were leaking, they all have the K top, and the system has never been opened before. It appears Microsoft was using fake capacitors in the Xbox 360, or the Chinese facility where the console was manufactured in was using them and passing them off a genuine. Just thought I'd share...

MSI gt83vr 8rg titan - no picture after repasting and repading GPUs
                  by ktmmotocross
                  Have a VERY bad day.
Have this MSI GT83VR 8rg titan that wont show picture after both 1080ti cards repasted and repaded. offcourse as first i unplug main battery. everything went ok, but when starting i have no picture. Whole laptop looks like starting, have all voltages. i try it without gpus, but no luck. i have older gt73 with it and it shows picture without gpus so there is something with board. Flashed bios and have same results. i think about chipset as it is nototrious SR40 series, but dont want to make harsh move

                  Any hint?
