    MSI 694T Pro V5

    Well, my MSI board started acting funny yesterday, not booting up properly, crashing in different spots during post, giving weird errors, etc. I had a look on the net and came across badcaps and wow was I suprised. I had a look at the caps in my mobo and 6 of them are domed on top and 3 have leaked fluid onto the board.

    I have done alot of soldering before and I was thinking of replacing the caps, does anyone have any suggestions, tips or tricks for a 694T Pro motherboard before I start?

    I will try and post some before, during and after pics.

    just replace all 1000uf and above. others say 470uf and above. either is ok with me. 470uf if you wanna be sure. MSI made great boards if you exclude the caps prob. i will finish installing a 815ep msi board for one of the secretaries tomorrow. after recap with panny fc and 866 proc from ebay, an excellent pc. lol corporate on a budget.

    the most important thing is to take your time with the recap. dont rush. do a good job not a one evening rush job. read the FAQs good. if you have probs to remove the caps even after adding fresh solder to each joint you are removing then your iron is inadequate. going in hot and fast is the key. dont force the old caps out and the new caps in.

      And be sure to clean off electrolyte and solder flux residues, as both can be conductive (especially the electrolyte).

        Thanks for the info!!! I plan to go to my local electronics shop today and pick up some caps and solder it up.

        (4) 1500uF / 10V
        (3) 1000uF / 6.3V

        willawake: yah I am going to replace only 1000uF and up since those are the only ones with the domed tops and fluid leaking from them. All the other caps look good and appear to be from a different manufacturer.

        PeteS in CA: I will make sure I do that... that would suck... I replace all the caps then the flux shorts it all out when I power it up.

          I breadboarded a circuit for a test fixture last week with a 555 timer. Nothing destructive happened, but the flux was sufficient to keep the 555 ciruit from operating properly. When I measured a drop of the flux with my DMM, it was under 2K - an unpleasant surprise, since I didn't know that type of flux was conductive at all, .

            @jschrey: If going to your local electronics shop, make sure you're buying 105 degree, low ESR caps. I would recommend Panasonic or Rubycon brand.

              I have a msi 694t pro and it worked fine, but know I have aproblem that it shuts down sometimes when I hit start, or when I leave it alone for a long time and hit whatever icon it will shut down and restart with no errors.......can this be doo from bad caps

                Instability is a typical indication of bad caps. However, don't confine your search to your motherboard. Check out your power supply as well.

                  If you OC'ed the processor too much you can get this symptom.

                    I've got 3 msi 694t pro , 2 of them are from Taiwan , and one from China , the Taiwans seems better . They had Teapo caps , and the big ones are good brand http://www.hothardware.com/reviews/i...94Tpro/led.htm

                    Which brand gone bad on your board? , the teapo?
