I just repaired a Dell Inspiron 620 by replacing the motherboard. I would like to see if I could repair the original board for another project.
The model of the motherboard is GDG8Y.
The problem with it was if left plugged in the PC would not power on. I could unplug the PC for a few minutes then plug it back in and it would usually power on, however i would have to hold the power button in for 5 sec or so.
After testing the PSU and power button (tested good) I determined the motherboard was likely bad.
I googled the problem and found several posts where people had the same problem and the fix seemed to be to unplug the front panel USB and audio cables. I tried that and it didn't work in my case.
Do you think the problem is fixable on the component level like a bad cap (none with obvious signs of popping), resistor, voltage regulator, etc?
Any help would be appreciated.
