With that kind of damage I'd replace the board, if it's as you said that the router got fried by lightning strike
Very low chance of the damage being limited to only the Ethernet controller IC, I guess you could try removing it but I don't have hope for it

iMac A1418 - No LED, no power after overvoltage on Ethernet port
Hi guys, I need your help again.
I have this iMac from a customer that shut down during a storm along with all the other devices in the house. In particular, the router, connected via Ethernet to the iMac, caught fire.
When I removed the screen from the iMac to check the status of the LEDs, I noticed that none of them were lit. I had a perfectly compatible and working power supply, so I tried it right away, but the problem remained the same (no LEDs). With the thermal camera, I noticed only a slight warming (32 degrees) of the NCP1605BG chip on the power supply. The rest was completely cold, including the entire motherboard. I then removed the motherboard from the chassis for an initial inspection and immediately noticed signs of burning in the area of the Ethernet port. I am attaching the images. Now I am asking you if I have any reasonable hope of restoring the functionality of the iMac (even by isolating the Ethernet port).
Thank you very much.Tags: None

by roman728Hello friends,
I have this unit with no backlight on screen. After inspection i determined there is a shorted capacitor on BKL_BOOST circuit. I removed the capacitor, short is gone but backlight still not working. I found that Q9702 is not open and R9721 is only around 70kOhms but according to schematics it should be 301k. I removed the resistor and connected the gate of Q9702 directly to GND. Now i have 12v passing by the mosfet to turn on backlight IC LP8561 (U9700) but BKL_BOOST circuit is not working. I can measure only 12V there but it should be around 60V.

by alterr333hello friends, this time i've got an imac wich needs to be uprgaded to the highest ammount of ram possible, in other cases i've had 27" iMacs that can go as high as 64GB of RAM, no issue. however, this particular case is getting kinda tough...
Case is that i install one Stick of 16GB @1600mhz paired with another 8GB @1600mhz and it works flwalessly.
Problem comes when i install the 2X16GB STICKS @1600mhz
gives the chime immediatly.
