    Motherboard question ?

Trying to fix junked MicroStar - MS-6312.

Symptoms: / Problems / and questions.
    * Will never turn on with the power switch...
    * Let it sit for a minute, and it will come on by itself.
    * Gets to "cmos setting wrong" press F1 or F10 etc. cause bios was reset.
CAN not press anything cause the USB keyboard does not work! Although it Does detect the mouse.
    * Then it shuts itself off.... with a few power light glitches...

Is it only the capacitors or the power supply?
I see two capacitors that are bad looking.
"swoll up on top a bit" and a spec of the brown stuff on top.

In the top pic at the post below.
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=129
The two green ones at the top right are the ones that are bad.
Everything else looks ok.. although it looks like the power supply has been hot before...thats' what I was thinking that was wrong with it But It never got hot while it was on. But then I noticed that the two bad capacitors got really hot right before it shut off...

So, if I replace those two capacitors and it fixes it....
HOW am I even going to press F1 or F10 to reset the bios back up when the USB keyboard don't work?
and of course this model of motherboard doesn't have a PS2 port. Has nothing but usb ports. and it only detects the mouse, which I can't click F1 with. lol What do I do?
I see an empty plugup hole with com1 on it.. maybe install a serial port and use a serial keyboard?

    Thanks for any suggetions...

make sure that triple usb jack isnt busted.
remember bad caps can cause all sorts of odd symptoms.
if they are bulging they are bad.,

      Agreed.

Use the USB port closest to the actual PCB for a keyboard, that worked for me on the many of these I've repaired.

As KC8 mentioned, any swollen caps are bad and will cause probs.

        Hey.. thanks for replying..

Topcat. I tried every usb port. But maybe the caps are causing that to?
I'll check radioshack or somewhere tomorrow. I done checked all my junked electronics around the house.. and none had the cap size I needed. 1500uf 10v. I was hoping something else had the part in it I needed. hee hee..

kc8adu. The usb ports look ok. It does detect the mouse, but not the keyboard. I seen that when I moved the cmos jumper to "clear". of course even then I still couldn't click nothing. lol

This is the first gateway I tried to fix. And I was supprised not to see no PS2 ports.. I was like.. "WHAT!" how crappy... lol

IS there any way that I can check the power supply on that model without the motherboard connected?
Its the 90watt NPS-145PB Newton power ltd.
There is a green wire, but I didn't get it to do nothing by jumping it....

And yep, those two caps are posted here as being bad cap manufacturers. " CHHSI" . They prolly should say "Cheezy" lol..

        Thanks for the help folks.

I have a post on psx-place for this but thought I'd try here as well in case anyone has experience or the schematics or any kind of help. Here's the original post from psx-place:

Hi, so I bought a YLOD Fat PS3 as I wanted a repair project and thought it would be a good way to get experience. I was able to solder to the RX, TX and Diag pads on the COK-002 motherboard and was able to get external access and retrieved the codes. I haven't powered it on beforehand so these should be the last ones. I did try to get internal access immediately after but kept getting scopen response...

Asus ROG Strix Scar G533qm with a G733qm Motherboard, can I modify the Bios to accept G533 Bios
          by glovecaps
          Hello,

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.

My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this...

Legion Y540 17irh motherboard issue ( need help to know how to diagnose my motherboard)
          by Docus
          Hi everyone ๐Ÿ˜€,

I'm here today to ask for help with repairing the motherboard of a Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH.

To give you some context, I'm passionate about computer repair so much so that I've invested in a lot of tools and started practicing on dead and old hardware. I've been learning how to solder and desolder components, mostly focusing on phone repairs.

Recently, I bought a broken Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH for just โ‚ฌ150, and there are two main reasons why I made this purchase:
          1. I already own the exact same model, but its plastic chassis is badly damaged.

          HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D Blank Screen - motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901

Subject is a blank screen issue in HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D version laptop with motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901 MB-A02. Production year is 2012. This one is a 2nd hand motherboard which I could use it for few months only. Suddenly no output from the internal display and also no signal from HDMI port then Windows out of order after few boots.

Caps lock working normally and no HP's caps-lock warning blinks. Making a hard reset and replacing the RAM sticks or using different slots didn't help.

Fans are spinning. Blindly could install windows11 and got the device manager...

          ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap
          by momaka
Hereโ€™s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF capsโ€ฆ which arenโ€™t any good news either.

So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:
