    Sceptre X22WG

I have a Sceptre X22WG that died. It no longer powers on. No LED in the front, no display on either of the video outputs. I looked and saw that I am not alone. I am guessing that I have a fault with the power supply, but I haven't cracked her open yet. For now I guess I will look at other threads and try to repair it as others have.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Don't crack it open. Open it carefully. Replace any bad parts. If you need help identifying the bad parts, take pictures and attach them to your post. There is a FAQ in inserting pictures in your post, please follow it.

Sorry about that, I initially posted from my phone.

I have disassembled the monitor and removed the power supply card. The other thread with similar problems was a great help.

      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...=sceptre+x22wg

I checked the fuse, which was fine.

Here are the pictures of my board. With the old caps removed.

I ordered new caps with the help of the previously mentioned thread since the caps are exactly the same. Thank you motzilla!

I removed the caps at work while on my break. It was very easy. Have to love the through hole boards. You can see them at the top of the last picture.

You can not see to well from my poor pictures, but the one in the center has a bulge in it. While at work I tested the cap in a cap tester we have, and found that several caps failed miserably. The cap checker we have is pretty nice since you input the manufacturer specs (1000uf, 16v, etc) and it will test the cap and let you know if it's good or BAD.

      Taicon cap

      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...id=13918&stc=1

I opted to replace the caps the others had replaced, with hope of seeing similar results. The Taicon passed most of the testing, but had a high ESR. The Capxon caps that were bulging did not fare as well.

My order of caps has shipped as of this morning, so I am optimistic that my monitor will be operational late next week.

Good job of documenting what you are doing. Only one question - did you keep track of which cap goes where?

I replaced seven caps on the power supply from the previous pictures. They did the trick. I haven't seen the monitor turn on in a while. About $5 in caps and a few hours of work, and it is fully operational again! I think the majority of time went to getting the case of the monitor open. The soldering was done in minutes. It should be easy since I am are IPC certified Doesn't get much easier than through hole boards. If anyone needs help with their Sceptre, pm me.

              by Dani_2024
Hi and thanks in advance for any input you might provide!
I have a Sceptre U550CV-UMRD8POTV83BB 4K LED (this is a dumb tv) that I bought new in August 2021, so It's just completed 3 years.
Main power board model: TP.MS3683.PC821 T-Con board: N4TP546UHDPU2L_BO

Last Sunday I was watching a dvd and fell asleep for about half hour, when I awoke the tv screen was black and couldn't get the dvd menu to show, so I changed the input to antenna and had sound but no picture, turned it off. I then got online and found this great site! ....read many troubleshooting tips and this...

              Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
              by eryjus
              Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
              by Paxman_Swede
              Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
              by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Help with switching power supply caps
              by captain150
I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...
