    LG W2252V-PF troubleshooting

My trusty old LG seems to have some issues powering on. Initially the power led did not turn on at all and neither did the backlights. I checked the fuse and i get proper voltage on the large caps.

After resoldering some joints which seemed to have a halo, the monitor light come on, makes the normal "start chime" and the backlights are on. There is no image or OSD though.

The monitor being 11 years old, had one simmilar issue 5 years ago where it would not power on at all and a few caps were replaced by a friend as they were bulging which brought it back to life since.

    Cap list on the board:
2x 1000uF/16V Teapo SEK (GP caps) <- replaced previously
    1x 1000uF/16V Jenpo CE-WH <- replaced previously
3x 470uF/35V Su'scon SG (Ultra Low ESR, High ripple current)
    1x 0.22uF/50V Su'scon
    1x 33uF/50V SamYoung NXB

I will probably do a total recap being the board is rather old and the caps (although still not leaking) are crappy brands, will also measure their specs when i remove them.
    • All diodes are ok
    • All resistors are in specs
    • No shorts present as the fuse isnt blown
    • The 470uF/35V Su'scon SG measured 0.01-0.02 ESR and 467uF so they were not the issue

Any idea what else i should measure to check it's functioning?

Are the 1000uF/16v ones supposed to be GP and not lowESR? I can not find a decent photo of other boards to see the caps or a schematic for this monitor PSU "AIP-0178"

    Re: LG W2252V-PF troubleshooting

Found a few pictures online which confirmed that the caps were all the same type originally (su'scons SG) and not the generic crap installed when previously repaired.
So i thought to start with those and after replacing the three 1000uf/16V the monitor is alive again. Will do a total recap soon but im waiting for my order as i dont have any 35V in stock and larger/50V won't fit physically.

For some data, the Teapos were ~820uF / 2.1 Ohm ESR on my meter and the replacement Panasonic FR's are ~980uF / 0.02 Ohm.
Hopefully it will live at least 5 more years.

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

      AOC AG493UCX 49-inch monitor - Firmware request
      by wattage
      Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

LG 23MP55HQ LED Monitor turns off after a few seconds or flickers.
      by Rick_1234
      Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.

Wise Wing F199 19'' LCD monitor - recapped
      by momaka
Looking through my repair pictures and notes, it's been a long time since I posted anything in the LCD monitors section. So here goes that.

I'm dedicating this thread to one of the very first LCD monitors I repaired (if not the first one), which was more than 10 years ago now. The monitor is a Wise Wing, model F199. It's a 19” CFL-backlit LCD. I got it for free off of Craigslist in 2009 from a guy, who said he bought it for cheap from Wallmart and the monitor worked only for a little less than 2 years before quitting.

When I saw the Craigslist post, I wasn't...
