Samsung Syncmaster 2693hm - flicker on startup

Issue: over a couple weeks, black flicker on turning on after having been off for a while has grown from a few seconds to nearly a minute.

I've opened the monitor up and see no obvious fault, such as bloated caps or burnt pcb
    - but a few weeks ago there was detected a burning electric smell in my computer room for which I found no source and which disappeared after a while.

I haven't seen them listed elsewhere for the 2693hm, so I'll list its cap values here for other people:

    3x 1000uf 35v
    1x 1000uf 25v
    2x 2200uf 10v
    2x 47uf 50v
    2x 22uf 50v
    2x 2.2uf 50v

And there's one more that I can't discern because it has caulking covering it, CP803. 13 larger capacitors in total.

I have pictures I'll try to upload in a next post.

Urls for images of the power board are:

I'm doing things on a tablet and it's a bit awkward.

A previous thread I made regarding the issue is here:

I'm thinking to just replace all the caps and hope it fixes things. I don't know if I can presently turn the monitor on as it's presently disassembled.

If the problem goes away on a warm start, bad capacitors are likely, the hairdryer trick as already mentioned may confirm this.

But it could also be a lamp\wiring issue.

You should probably also check for cracked solder joints in the inverter area, around the transformers etc.

Also please upload your photos to the forum, it makes everything easier. (See: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1868)

Hope the pictures show as attachments for this post. Front and back shots of the power board, and front/back doors of the power and inverter board.

Can you have a sniff at the four corners of the screen ?, if it's burnt wiring at the connection to the tube you might be able to smell it.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 2693hm - flicker on startup

I smelled around the monitor screen and sensed no smell, and no cracked solder joints around the transformer.

I pulled the caulk covered cap out of the way and it's another 22uf 50v, so the total list of larger caps for the Syncmaster 2693hm is:

              3x 1000uf 35v
              1x 1000uf 25v
              2x 2200uf 10v
              2x 47uf 50v
              3x 22uf 50v
              2x 2.2uf 50v

I replaced all the listed caps on the power board and reassembled my monitor, and now it's functioning all well.

I've been turning my monitor off and on and appreciating the experience of it working. It takes ~2 seconds longer to light up after the power button is pressed than it had with the previous caps, but then it comes full on in one moment.

Move over Tesla, I am en electric god! Ah ha ha ha!

                Thanks everyone for help.

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 2693hm - flicker on startup

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to say thanks to you guys!

I have a Syncmaster 2693HM which I rescued from someone throwing it away due to a flickering display. Ordered the caps listed in this thread from Digikey and replaced all except one (was in a confined area and thought I might do more harm than good with my amateur soldering skills).

Anyway I now have a working monitor which comes to life quickly and no flickering.

Now if I could just get my Bose Sound Dock working again...

Samsung flicker - BN44-00932T board or else?
                      by fixit007
I picked up this TV that the prior owner said - just died.

Tested the fuse - burnt. A dead capacitor is visible too on the hot side (CP801). Got the replacement power board (cheaply - used). Replaced the board - the TV turned ON!

Now, about a month later (yesterday) I noticed the left side of the screen was flickering from time to time. That was already happening with the antenna input, not through HDMI.

Also, some glitchiness with a Fire stick on HDMI3 - I hit an app with quick dark screen in stick, the TV goes - no input. Then I had to choose the stick...

                      Hi folks,

I'm new here and was wondering whether you might be kind enough to give me some advice on troubleshooting the following problem:

Quite a few years ago now, a couple of years from new, my Samsung Syncmaster 740BF LCD monitor starting playing up by making a buzzing noise and then the display would go blank. I seem to remember the blue power led would also go off when this happened but that I'm not 100% sure of. By pressing the power button I do remember I could at first get it working again but eventually the problem would come back. At the time I had read about...
