Got this one in today, the AC adapter will shut down when plug into the DC jack on the monitor. The resistance between the + and - pin on the DC jack shows < 1 Ohm, remove the INDUCTOR that is connected between the + and the power MOSFET, the MLCC but the short is still there. I remove the solid cap then the shorts went away. I am surprised that it has this solid cap at the DC input jack but not at the outputs of the switching power supplies on the board. I install the PANASONIC FM in place in stead and check to see any ripple at the DC jack with the scope, nothing there to be concerned about. I will be burning in for about a week.

by reessiHello:
I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.
I started on the ACER:
Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.
I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap... -
by im_tryingLaptop does not power on but has a fix white light on power button, when connected to power.
I found, while trying to diagnose, a hot spot in the motherboard and found it to be a shorted capacitor (see photo below) on the 2.5v (2D5V_S3 on schematics). After replacing it with one from a donor board, still, the board does not turn on...
The usb-c meter reads upon connection 20.1v and 0.00a, with some occasional flashes to 0.03amps. After 10/15 seconds circa, it goes to 5.2v and draws an almost constant 0.07amps. (same behaviour as before)
To my fingers, nothing seems...1 Photo -
by Geeker007Hi All, I have a 9th Gen Dell Optiplex micro PC motherboard which doesn't power on. When I connect the motherboard with power adapter, it goes into safe mode and turns off. So from info I have gathered online, it looks like there is a short circuit on the motherboard. So can you guys help me with figuring out the issue?
I am new to electronics repair, so my queries could be naive but I am ready to learn.
So I have a multimeter and a solder with me. But I can try to get a variable voltage power supply with a thermal camera as well. From what I seen online, best way is... -
by LapsmithWhile installing new SSD's in my new to me Dell 5520 laptop, I dropped a screw which sparked and fried a capacitor. Yes, I know I should have disconnecte the battery first Doh!😡. The laptop runs fine, but I want to replace the capacitor asap. I ordered and received the replacement (10uF, 25V 0603). Since I also managed to burn up one of the pads it was soldered to, my main question is whether it is okay to solder this capacitor on top of another capacitor (same size, same function in circuit). Specifically, PC4428 is bad and no way to easily solder to the board. I would like to solder it piggy...

by BowlineMy question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?
Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?
My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell... - Loading...
