    Wacom Cintiq 21UX Garbage Everything

I don't remember if I discussed this before.

When I got my cintiq two years ago it was fine aside from several lines of patterened horizontal pixels that were constantly garbled. Depending on the resolution the lines would get larger or smaller but they were always the same lines. The OSD was at the time immune to this.

As time progressed I gained more and more lines and soon I was seeing corruption in the OSD menus as well.
Finally it reached a point where after being pulled form storage it was unusable. The OSD was completely gone and the screen was useless.

I opened the unit up and found a couple of visually good KZE''s and an arrangement where DVI came into the system on one board, onto a paddleboard and then out to another board which was presumably the LCD controller and then out on four ribbon cables tot he screen.

Reseating on the ribbon cables did nothing. Pressing on the three major IC's did not change much either. Contact cleaner was equally a no go. The last thing I can think of is that even though it was not seeing use the LCD itself has died. Can anyone confirm this possibility?

Its possible that the power supply could be producing all that noise. I still would check the KZE with an ESR meter!...

P.S. Have you tried pressing [gently] on the spots where the flat ribbon cables go to the screen?

P.S.2. I'm surprised that those hermei caps on the backlight inverter haven't blown yet!

The power supply is a bit of a hack as-is. I could not source the proper AC adapter so I reverse engineered a new one from the power brick for a Symbol cradle charge station. It outputs 12V 9A which is perfect and it even has a fan in it so it won't overheat.
As for checking ripple, even though I've owned a scope for years I still don't know how to check ripple so enlighten me here.
Pressing on the ribbon cables themselves do nothing. I can't get access to the rest of the cable as it's buried within the LCD assembly itself.

I can't check ESR at all. The best I can do is replace caps and hope things work.

That's not a panel failure, it's bad data being sent to it. Try reflowing that Genesis processor on the logic board, and the RAM next to it.

Could just be bad ram. I'd also check the regulators are giving a stable output

Aside from a heat gun, what else would you recommend to at least try and reflow the chip? The samsung memory I can at least sourca a replacement for but I have never attempted a BGA repalcement.

I agree. Whenever I got that blockiness and it was uniform it was the T-con (scaler board)
I attached a picture of a Dell that worked with a new T-Con board. See if that looks similar.

I'm having a problem with the power itself and it most likely is that something came loose. How did you open the back of yours? I took out all the screws, but the cover won't budge.

                  Thanx,
                  Kirk

I am also having power issue with mine. It powers off randomly and then will come back on for a period of time. I seem to be getting a good 12 volts to the main board when off, but that drops to 11 and change when its on.

Were you able to resolve this?
