Re: DELL 2405fpw
Yeah I ordered the Zener and Mosfet from digikey last week. Should be here this week. I will let you guys know what happens. I just realized didn't get a surface mount zener. Hopefully it wont be an issue soldering it?

Re: DELL 2405fpw
Looks like he replaced the badly damaged 5V power supply section with the new 5V supply board. If 6.8V Zener is not too low for the Gate drive, I do not see why not, if it works.
So you are going to replace the Zener and the MOSFET and see what happen?Leave a comment:

Re: DELL 2405fpw
Ok. BTW, I found this website and wound up ordering a 6.8v zenner. Apparently this guy had a similar problem with the video after he fixed the power supply issue. He measured the output of the drain on a working monitor and determined it should be 5v. Interesting how he fixed the issue. Let me know what you think.

Re: DELL 2405fpw
The Zener shouLd be 12~15V, I would use 15V Zener 1/2Watt (the F5035S GATE is made to handle up to +/-20V), 15V should be OK.Leave a comment:

Re: DELL 2405fpw
Not being shorted is no guarantee that the mosfet is working properly. It still may be turning on properly.
If it were me, I would get the replacement diode in addition to the mosfet. It is $2.47 at digikey.

Re: DELL 2405fpw
So I went back to that URL again, I can see now they were talking about circuits in the main board around the area I circled, if that the case, do you get short circuit on that Q1 (F5305S)? You already found out that D19 Zener is shorted out. If that Zener is for the Gate protection, I would expect it to be in 12~15V range.
So it looks like you are working at the right area.Leave a comment:

Its the component covered in black rubber. It's had sticker on it that read

Re: DELL 2405fpw
Logic board. Upper left by the Capacitors. In the area that was marked by a square in a prior post. It's to the left of the screw holding the rubber wire on the boardLeave a comment:

Re: DELL 2405fpw
In the other URL, it mentions D19 as being the diode that is shorted out.
Power off, unplug the lcd and test your D19 with the diode test function on your multimeter. You should have 2 readings. Report both.Leave a comment:

The "fat tab" and pin 2 (center) are internally electrically connected.Last edited by retiredcaps; 06-29-2012, 06:45 PM.Leave a comment:

by bmxlovahHi,
My Dell Precision T7910 died after enabling onboard SAS controller and applying RAID settings. There were no hardware changes between working and not working state, only setup (via bios -> controller settings). After applying settings and reboot PC turns on, flash leds (normally) but there's no further action, it just stays on with no graphics and no keyboard led's on. There's no Dell logo, nothing. I've tried resetting bios by jumper, replacing cpu's, replacing ram, removed/replaced cmos battery, disconnecting all drives etc. I've also dumped .bins from mobo chips SLI1 (16...-

by JKetchamHello, wanting to see if anyone has any experience with Dell 3100 Chromebook's and might have some input on an issue I've been seeing with them.
I work in Technology for a good size school district, and we've began to switch away from Lenovo Chromebooks over to Dell 3100. I like the Dell 3100's because they seem to be more durable than the Lenovo N22's, N23's and 100e's we've used in the past.. but my main complaint with them is they randomly won't turn on.
Currently, in my building I have about 200 students using the Dell 3100's and daily I have a rash of students... -
by juergenbI got my self a new Dell Workstation (Dell Precision 3660, i5-13500).
Unfortunately, Dell has fixed the front fan“s settings in the BIOS.
Both the speed and the presence of the fan are fixed.
There seems to be no hidden setting.
The thermal tables for the speeds were changed in one of the last BIOS updates.
Do you see a possibility to change these tables from the BIOS update file?
Precision_3660_2.1.0 -> Release Notes
Updated the thermal table to reduce fan noise.
Updated Intel Management...-
