Westinghouse LCM-22W2, Same symptom different solution.

Hi I am new to badcaps and electronic repair in general. I have a LCM-22w2 and like most others the screen will turn on for about 1 second then the back light turns off. I have replaced ALL of the caps on the yellow power board and the bridge rectifier to no avail. I am still having the same problem. Does anyone have any other possible solutions that I should look at?

    Thanks

    What capacitors did you use?
Please provide front and back pictures of your boards.

Well I think the 400V is a SMG and the rest are Panasonic EB.

You were nearly there with those caps - you got the Panasonic part right.
EB are not good enough for use in a power supply - they're general purpose.
They don't list the ESR and the ripple current rating is too low.

You need to get FC, FK or FM.

I don't understand... I bought these because digikey said they are used in power supplies... If it is because the caps are the wrong type would it make sense to have the same issue as it did with the original caps?

            Yes, similar symptoms can occur.

Did you originally have any failed capacitors?

No there was no buldged caps... I couldn't visually see anything wrong.

Rev 0.2 will be up sometime next week if things go well, but see rev 0.1 at

That should give you some ideas for starters. Ask questions if something doesn't make sense.

OK. Sorry for the delay but I got busy with real work and put this on the back burner. So I just replaced all the capacitors with Panasonic FM except for the 400v 120uf that I left the original in. Still have the same problem, also I confirmed that I can see the screen when I put a light on it. reiredcaps I looked over your thread and its a little to much for me. I am very new with this stuff. Does anyone know what the second most common problem is after replacing the caps?

                  Thanks

Since you're getting a second or two of the backlights coming on, that would indicate that the inverter circuit is getting it's 12-14V. The problem could be caused by a shorted inverter transformer winding, bad CCFL wiring or a bad CCFL tube.

OK so I have narrowed down the problem to a ccfl tube not lighting. I saw someone say that if you don't have an extra tube to plug each one in by it self and see if it turns on and shuts off and if you find one that does not turn on then you found the bad one. Well sure enough one does not turn on. Also another one makes some noise and kind of flashes before it goes out. Is that one bad too? Now I need to know if its the tube or the wire. How can I go about doing that?

So I took out the ccfl and of course broke one that WAS working. All of the tubes have black ends even the ones that worked. Is that normal? Where do people get these things at?

Blackening of the ends is normal as the tubes age. Retiredcaps has already given you the site for replacements, ccflwarehouse.

OH I didn't see that. I thought it was just a page for showing how to replace them. Should have looked harder.

Does anyone know the exact size I need for the lcm22w2?

                              Thanks...
