For what it's worth, a polypropylene film 1μF 100v capacitor has been working fine in place of the electrolytic.

Yeah, I looked at that 1μF 100v first to see what you were going with because of the slim pickings
In another thread I started about the HG281D I asked about using a film capacitor there, but I think the question got lost in that wall of text.

In all likelihood, they chose to use an electrolytic there because it was cheaper, but I don't understand the circuit at all, so I'm hesitant to get fancy with the replacements.

after a little more research and checking the board, i think that
    https://www.digikey.com/product-deta...719-ND/5051848
can probably squeeze in there and do the job with much better lifetime rating. i'm going to order this and the UCC as a backup in case i can't fit it.

    couple options:

    https://www.digikey.com/product-deta...1360-ND/755876

i would lean towards the nichicon, but the UCC has better high freq ripple current. neither have ESR data. decisions decisions...

Like you mentioned, there is no point to use two different sizes of 100uF caps if size constraints are not an issue. So it's perfectly okay to go with 5x12mm.

That said, if it was me, I'd streamline the order even further.

For example, all those different 10 uF caps, I'd just go with 10uF/50V/5x12 mm Panasonic FC for everything. Being low ESR and bigger in size, they should also last longer.
sounds good. hopefully i'll report back in a week or two with a fixed monitor. thank you!

Hello. I have a HG281D that works fine for a few minutes then the power starts dropping out and screen goes black... no visibly damaged components or bloated caps, seems to be in line with the experiences others have had. I wish to replace the capacitors. After checking my actual boards (PSM217-404-H-R & PM549DA3 M06 ver5.0A) and reading the recommended caps lists and bad caps lists I came up with the following replacements that are in stock at Digikey.

    Main Board (PM549DA3 M06 ver5.0A)
    Code:
Qty	Cap	Voltage	Dia	Hei	Rep Part
    3	470	16	8	12.6	EEU-FM1C471L
    12	10	16	4	6	EEA-GA1C100
    3	100	16	6.5	6
    2	100	16	5	12	EEU-FR1C101
I don't see a reason that they had to use the two different sizes of 100uF caps, so I was just going to replace them all with the 5x12mm ones. The eBay/Amazon cap repair kits for this board that I have found do the same thing.

    Power Board (PSM217-404-H-R)
    Code:
Qty	Cap	Voltage	Dia	Height	Labels Rep Part
    1	1	50	5	12	c205 50YXF1MEFCT15X11
    1	1	100	5	12	c606 UEP2A010MDD

Hi e76nystrom, welcome to the forums!

Here is a more comprehensive list of capacitors suitable for PSU use:
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...22&postcount=9

With that said, the following caps should be okay:

    for 2.2uf 50v:

    for 10uf 50v:

If they are near "hot spots" such as heatsinks and linear regulators (i.e. 1117 or similar), then they might have dried up.

Again, Nichicon PW, Panasonic FC, and Chemicon KY should be okay to replace those. If you need links, let me know. Otherwise, I will let you search for them as an exercise/homework.

I am trying to repair an HF-289H monitor with a Phihong PSM 217-404-H-R power supply like the one pictured in this link: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...8&d=1435812326

I have done some trouble shooting on the monitor. I have 5v on the 5vsb line with the control board unplugged. When a supply power to the control board the 5vsb line falls to around 2.5v.

I have decided to replace the capacitors and have found all the capacitors 22uf and above from DigiKey, but am having trouble finding the following:

    c114 2.2uf 50v
    c406 and c108 10uf 50v
    c606 1 uf 100v

I can find capacitors with the right capacitance and voltage rating, but none in the series that recommended and none with a specification for ESR.

Are there any recommendations for these?

On the control board there are 23 100uf 16v capacitors. I have also been unable to find a good replacement for these. Are these likely to have failed?

There should be SMD MLCC (Multi Layer Ceramic Cap) about 0.1 uF connected in parallel with the electrolytic cap that is connected to the output pin of that regulator also, did you remove that MLCC to see if the low resistance will go away?

    Hello
    I have a screen hg281d down.
At the start, it cycle on red blue green.
    I replace c80 & C83.
I do not have 1.8V to regulator vs18.
The output is short-circuited with ground.
The regulator is ok, the capacitor is ok.
I do not have the schema to find or is short circuit.
    If anyone had the schema.

    thank you

Could you post some pictures of that? I don't remember off the top of my head what kind of capacitor C404 is. If it's a small tan square/rectangle one, then that will certainly need replacing as it may be shorted. But again, I think it's better we see some pictures first of your board before jumping to conclusions.

    Hi Everybody,

I am a long time owner of the Hanns G and have experienced problems for years, usually the monitors takes 5/10 minutes after I've turned it on to show picture, after which it's stable.
This week I tried to turn it on but didn't get anything at all from the power led.
I started looking for ways to fix it and happened upon this great Thread !
I have now taken the screen appart and had a look. I'd like to change the capacitors as It's been advised in this thread, but also noticed an issue on the back of the power board, on Capacitor C404 which appears to be burned.

I've searched this thread but it doesn't look like this has been mentionned before so I'd like to ask you what kind of capactior I'd need here (is it a Capacitor ?) as this looks really tiny. Or will it work even without this maybe?

Thanks a lot for your help,

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
    by PantherDave
    Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.
