    Re: Yamaha RX-V581 going into protection mode

    Desolder and take out of circuit the output transistor one at a time measure with a analog meter BCE remembering they are paired transistors NPN & PNP
    you will probably find one is slightly leaking
    all so check the protection resistor on each channel 22ohm
    check their is a monolithic capacitor near the relay that runs the standby circuit on the power supply replace it
    ON A NOTE ALL BOARDS must have their Chasis EArth connected
    these units run a Pdetc circuit comparator if you have any differences in supply the Protect Pdetct will activate a shutdwn

      Re: Yamaha RX-V581 going into protection mode

      Hello all,

      New user and first time poster...

      I am having the same issue with my RX-V650. The error is DC PRT:000E.

      There is -38.7V on the SBL (Surround Back Left) speaker binding post. It changes to -51.7V if I switch the amp between 4ohms and 8ohms using the little toggle on the back near the SBL speaker terminals. The voltage matches what is on the negative rails, so it seems the voltage is leaking somewhere.

      As far as I can tell, the voltage regulators on the main board are working well, I did replace two of them (7805 5V regulators and the matching capacitors).

      The voltages on the diodes directly in front of the Relay for the offending channel seem correct: .1V, 12V and 24V. Maybe the switch itself is bad? How would I tell?

      Any help would be appreciated. I am happy to attach any manuals or photos requested. @Sabertooth, were you ever able to fix your amp? So far this thread has been helpful, so I thought I'd reply here instead of starting a new thread.

      Thanks again!
      -Jack

        probably best to start a new thread and link a reference to this one - since it's a different model. Attaching any reference documents and schematics you found as well as photographs would help us help you.- since we don't have your equipment in front of us to probe.

          Yamaha HTR-5460 Receiver protection code info.
          by Pete D
          Hi Guys, My first time on the forum.

          I have a Yamaha HTR-5460 Receiver that I have used for a few years. It has recently developed a problem of giving a pop in the speakers and then shutting down. This is intermittent and might happen after an hour or a couple of days of playing.

          I have put it into Diagnostic Mode and it comes up with code “PS PRT 020 B”. According to the service manual “PS PRT” signifies a power supply problem in the mains transformer, 5V or 12V DC supplies. I'm assuming that the “020 B” part of the code would define which one of these...

          Yamaha RX-797 going into protection
          by Francesc V.
          Hi:

          I am trying to rescue this Yamaha amplifier. It turns on, does some relé clics and then switwes off.

          Following up the service manual, I've entered into diagnosis mode (Fm + 8 + switch on during 3 secs to avoid protection). It shows the error shown in one of the pictures. If I am not misunderstood it might be a power supply issue.

          These are the voltages I am getting in CB272 connector (page 33)

          Amplifier just plugged in:

          S10 -> 9.7-10.3V (quite unstable voltage)
          PRY -> -122mV
          E -> -108mV
          ...

          Yamaha HTR 2064 surround stuck on mute
          by hemant_2222
          Hello Everyone!

          After so many days!.. Finally back to begin with some interesting stuff I always love to work with.

          If anybody can please assist me in correcting a problem with my Yamaha HTR-2064, which has its surround speakers stuck on mute.

          Everything is working fine except the above. Troubleshooting so far has not yielded any result. So far comparing the voltages, show there is a 3.3v at the base of the transistors Q205 and Q206, which should be approx. minus 12. Other transistors base, of the muting circuit, shows -12v.

          I have attached...

          Yamaha RX-V2067 in Protection Mode
          by spi200
          Hi All,

          New member but have been following from the sidelines for a while. Been fixing some minor Power supply problems on Yamaha Receivers while we have been in lockdown to keep occupied. Got this RX V2067 a while ago and thought it would be an easy fix, but I have missed something and it has got me stumped on what else to look for.
          On Power up the unit immediately turns off, the protection mode is kicking in I guess. I am able to disable protection mode at it take me into diagnostic mode and the only error I get is "PS2 PRT:162H" - From my understanding this...

          Denon AVR 1908, High pitch noise on Surround back Left channel after long overhaul

          Hello,

          I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

          So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
          Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

          Spent some time downloading the Service...
