E-MU SP 12 memory battery issue.

I would be very grateful if anyone can help me out on a rather vexing issue. After months of searching for an E-mu SP-12 Drum Machine, I finally found one. When I got it the battery was dead, but having researched it, it seemed all I had to do was replace the battery and I would be good to go.

I sent it in to a local music repair store. When the tech changed the battery everything seemed fine. But then he started calling and messaging me about an issue; the memory battery in the unit goes dead in a few days after it is installed. Everything else works fine. The battery however draws too much current killing it. He tried removing and replacing everything associated with the battery looking for the issue. Nothing worked. The batteries just kept dying.

His final conclusion is it must be a defective circuit board and cannot be fixed. I am hoping someone has a workaround this or has a second opinion on my techs guys's conclusion.

    Thanks!!

    a music store??
    wrong people for the job.

2 diodes, 6 capacitors and a bunch of rams to test.
nothing custom or worth more than a few $

Music store tech's are pretty basic (or worse). I wouldn't take vintage gear like this to one unless they have a very good reputation. You have to ask around where local musicians and recording engineers are going for repairs.

Are you sure the new battery is going dead? Then you'd have to isolate which memory IC is bad and consuming too much power. Both main memory and expanded sound memory are powered from the battery.

There are several Engineeing Change Orders (ECO) for the Emu SP-12, a few just for the memory battery backup issues.
So a few circuit board mods required or may already be done, you'd have to check.

ECO #144 add resistor + capacitor
ECO #149 change battery isolation diode D13 from germanium to silicon
ECO #151 improve POWER OK; resistor R38 to 10k
ECO #155 Add ferrite inductor to filter line transients power up/power off causing NV memory "fry" (erase)

I would guess you have a bad SRAM IC causing high current drain, or bad capacitor on power to the SRAM's. But you'll need a better tech

Re: E-MU SP 12 memory battery issue.

Thanks. I will send it to a place that specializes in the repair of these units. www.forat.com. I sent it for repairs locally because I thought it was simply a dead battery and once that was changed, it would start working again.

Unfortunately I have no ability or know how to fix this myself based on your advice. I was going to pass the advice to my tech but I think I need a new tech guy working on this.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
          by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Lenovo P43s won't boot with internal battery connected – looking for help diagnosing battery issue
          by code share
          Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with my Lenovo ThinkPad P43s. The laptop does not power on when the internal battery is connected, but it works fine on AC power alone (battery disconnected). Once the battery is reconnected, the system becomes completely unresponsive — no lights, no fan spin, nothing.

Here's what I've tried so far:
          • Power/EC reset (held power button for 60 seconds with battery and AC disconnected)
          • Booted successfully on AC power only with the battery disconnected
          • Visual inspection of the battery — no swelling, burn marks, or connector damage

Dell Inspiron 3542 (Cedar_Intel-MB 13269-1) - RTC battery self-discharging and Realtek LAN issue
          by danielsak
Hello, I have issue with Dell Inspiron 3542.

          Motherboard marking:
          Code:
          Cedar_Intel-MB 13269-1
          PWB FX3MC REV: A00
The laptop works just fine (on battery and power supply) and doesn't cause any problems, except those described below:
          1. The first problem is that the RTC/CMOS battery self-discharges after about 2-3 weeks after installing a new battery. I have been installing different batteries (GP, Duracell, Energizer) and the problem still exist.
          1. The second problem is the LAN network card (Realtek RTL8106E), which is not detected at all in Windows. The BIOS is

Alienware 15 R2 Service Tag: DL7NN32 ISSUE (Battery is not charging)
          by Simone Vergani
          Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with my Alienware 15 R2 (Service Tag: DL7NN32). The laptop works perfectly when connected to the AC adapter — it powers on and functions normally. However, the battery does not charge. If I disconnect the DC adapter, the laptop shuts down immediately, as the battery is at 0%. I have replaced the battery with a new compatible one, but the issue persists. I also replaced the AC adapter with a compatible one, but the battery still doesn't charge.

To assist with troubleshooting, I'm attaching two power circuit schematics:

Hi i got this nice laptop in for battery replacement TS.

Owner ordered a replacement battery off Ebay (seller ratings were legit though :-)
Charger is a also new non original HP blue pin but does own the resistor between (+) to middle pin.
          + 19.76v
          0.845v on brown wire

Original battery (LK03XL) was bloated and was showing 100% but didn't hold any charge,
          Pin1-2 (+) terminal 0.056v.
          Pin3: 2.968v
          Pin4 2.968v
          Pin5: 3.23v
          Pin 6-8: GND

Replacement battery arrived charged and laptop powered up.
          But didn't agree...
