Denon avr-1909 no HDMI input after lightening surge

I have a Denon AVR-1909 that I picked up used with surround sound speakers.
I have been overloaded with projects so my wife set it up with our 52" LCD and it worked great until lightening struck very close to house (under ground utilities) and took out our cable box. Replaced cable box and found Denon receiver not working with HDMI inputs (3 inputs 1 out). Audio works fine FM radio. Also if use the component video inputs I get HDMI output with upscaling.
This being an older unit parts are discontinued or harder to find.
Does anyone know if a replacement HDMI pwr board assy (Denon 963189000860D) would fix my HDMI input problem and where I could sorce one?

    Thanks,pbr333

Hi, yes - most likeley replacing the HDMI board will fix your problem. Usually everything related to the HDMI is on that board. Since everything else is working fine, then most likely the problem was caused by ground differences between your HDMI units.
Finding one will be the hardest part. Even if you are able to find a new one, it might cost even more than a "new" ( used, but in working condition ) receiver.
So you can try the following options -
repairing your board ( if you do it by yourself, it might be a cheap fix )
buying a second hand board ( just be sure that it is working )
using/selling the AVR just for music and getting other unit for the TV

There is so much interesting and easily available information on lightning. It just is not likely that any solid state equipment will survive a lightning strike anywhere within the same room, let alone direct. How will your 3.3 volt microprocessor handle 50,000 volts? Lightning won't politely restrict itself to just one or 2 IC's.

20 years ago, a woman in Georgia was on the computer when lightning struck in the yard. They theorized it came in the water pipe, transferred to the ground wire, went through the computer mouse, in her hand and out her toe. Blew her shoe off and the tip of her toe was amputated because it was fried. That's a lightning strike.

C'mon.. cut the the lightning cr4p already .
pbr333 said "Audio works fine FM radio. Also if use the component video inputs I get HDMI output with upscaling." which translated means - main and auxiliary power supplies are OK, main amp is OK, cpu is OK, preamp is ok.
If this was anything close to a direct lightning hit, this denon would be pbr333's last problem .
I guess there was an outdoor radio aerial which induced electricity during the strike and since the unit was not grounded, everything went through the hdmi to other grounded unit.

If the surge had reached the main power line, now there would be a bunch of fried appliances.

well i would rather talk about how to fix this HDMI pwr board, but with all the comments on lightening strikes!
I said surge because a lightening strike would be in the millions of volts with some 30,000amps or more that would fry anything in its path. With that much power it tends to "induce" voltage and current in things in the general vicinity of the strike! In my case the comcast cable wire. I beleive it came in on the shielded coaxial cable ,taking out the cable box and making its way to the Denon avr-1909 through the HDMI cable. Lucky for me the comcast cable box took the big hit and somewhat protected the Denon.
Even though the outside shielding conductor of the cable is grounded it was no match for a multi-million volt lightening strike! If you were standing anywhere in my front yard you would instantly know what I meant by lightening surge. The good news is the comcast cable box finally provided a truely good service albeit it's last.

So anyone know where I can get a cheap HDMI pwr board part number#Denon 963189000860D ?
Or has anyone ever repaired one ?

            Thanks in advance,

You've mistaken the intent. It might be that some parts of a unit that has been struck by lightning do survive, while others blow up. This does not mean that fixing the non-functional parts will get you a repair. It won't. Certainly you can go ahead and replace IC's until your brains fall out, but as a word to the wise this will be an instructive project only. Just passing along some information gained by experience, that's all.
