Re: Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 Speakers - Keep blowing mosfets
The frequency output can be up to 100KHz (per diagram it shows 40KHz) so I doubt that the DC reading from your meter will show correct reading, you need scope to look at the signal, or in AC mode if your meter still does not have high enough bandwidth, scope will be the correct way.
If you will just put in the new MOSFET, you will have high chance of bowing up the new MOSFET if the outputs are not switching (those two outputs are not turned in phase otherwise both MOSFETs will be on at the same time and will be big blow up), I do not think you will want to blow up the new MOSFETs, I wouldn't.
You can try checking the internal MOSFETs of the IC (test it off the board) to see if they are shorted out, it is not 100% because it could have blown open circuit due to the power supply Voltage (~320VDC) dumped into the output pins.Last edited by budm; 12-31-2015, 08:34 PM.Never stop learning

My meter has frequency function and it only read frequency on one gate of one MOSFET as I mentioned in previous post. Same one read 5vdc also. I wasn't sure if that was normal and it was measuring quick pulses of 5v on signal?Comment

At this point to I would just get new IC unless you have the scope to look for proper signals.Never stop learning

Re: Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 Speakers - Keep blowing mosfets
I've ordered a new ic. In the meantime I've tested the two main filter caps in circuit and got a farad reading of them both added together. Does this conclude they're not shorted or I need to desolder and test individually?Comment

Put in new mosfets, ic, and fuse keeps blowing. Almost instantly. I don't know what else to do? I've checked pretty much everything in the smps primary except for the daughter board because there's glue still that's tough to get off without possibility of breaking little components on itComment

I've replaced this MOSFET twice and the drain and source keep shorting together on the power MOSFET furthest from the laptop fan.

The patient this time: a pair of Philips F9217L-50R speakers from a budget Philips rack/component system from the '80's. The system belongs to my brother in-law… or actually his parents. However, they didn't want it when they moved houses and he liked it anyways, so he ended up keeping it. It's a pretty cool-looking vintage system with a wood/veneer cabinet and shelves for records and cassettes. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it or get the model #'s (but maybe next time I visit, if anyone is curious?)

by link626Klipsch 4.1 computer speakers hissing.
Looking at all the caps on the amplifier, they all seem flat, except one maybe.
Not sure if this is leakage, or factory marker pen.
Can you tell?
The speaker system recently developed nonstop hissing noise. after 22 years.
Is there a special kind of cap I have to buy?
Low ESR? or general?

This is an ATX PSU rated for 550W powering 24/7 a computer load of about 200W, fed by a line-interactive 1500VA UPS. Mains is 230V.
- First issue: the PSU blew a mosfet on what I think is the active PFC boost converter, shorting its G D S pins together causing a short across the + and - lines produced by the rectifier on the 230V mains. The surge protector of the house tripped. When this happened I found that the UPS was unexpectedly disconnected from the wires of its battery. The UPS wasn't damaged, but I suspect this spontaneous detachment of a battery wire caused a condition that blew

Hi, I'll start by saying that I'm not an expert and I've reached a point where I don't know what to try/do anymore...
Starting from the beginning: I opened this subwoofer for the first time with a very strong smell of burnt electrical components, I realize that on the amplifier board there is a hole between V+ OUT and GND about the size of a finger, the damaged components were the shorted mosfets, two damaged zener diodes and two capacitors. I bought everything, I fixed the hole by cutting the pcb and putting a piece of a perforated board.
I had no problems connecting mosfets and capacitors,...-
