Power cap replacement (which ripple current?)

    Hello all,

    This is my first thread.

I need to replace the two main big caps in my amplifier.

I have two choices: both are 12,000uF 63V, but one is 5.70 of ripple current and the other is 19.00 of ripple current.

Since someone told me "audio grade cap is not good for the power supply section", I'm trying to understand if a higher ripple current value can suit such replacement.

    Many thanks!

    Go with high ripple one.

This characteristic has no relevance to how the amplifier will sound.

      Oh, thanks!

Someone told me that caps with higher ripple values are much more strong and are less vunerable to over heat and then have a longer life. Plus, they can provide good performance at lower end frequencies.

      Do you confirm these infos?

      Thanks!

resistance to heat depends on the can size (how big the capacitor is) and then on the electrolytic substance/composition used.
in the position they're in, the capacitors shouldn't affect the lower end frequencies at all.

These capacitors are like the lake above hydro power station, they just make sure that if the amp requires a sudden burst of power for some big bass or something, that power is available.

If they're not there, it's like the power plant's turbines suddenly spinning faster and sucking all the water in the lake through them, and then running on empty until river fills up the lake again to a minimum level required for the turbines to work smooth.

          Thanks!

I'll use the one with higher ripple current anyway... Just to be sure...
