Yes, that black plastic on the inside is flush against the end of the "port." At least they weren't advertised as being ported.

Maybe the original design was ported but it sounded out of control so they slapped the cover over the port?

That is possible, but I doubt they actually tested the design. If they did, these speakers wouldn't be sold for $55. The speakers are tinny and the "subwoofer" sounds muffled and distorted. A 3" full-range driver has better bass than the "subwoofer." In "basshead" terms, a 3" speaker "goes lower" and "hits harder."
