Re: Id this resistor please
The resistor does look a bit damaged but the value might still be ok, try and measure it.
The damage was not caused by circuit failure and seems to be in series with R808A, B, & C from the main cap to the ic802
Also knowing what the number is on ic802 might also helpLast edited by R_J; 05-30-2018, 11:37 AM.

Re: Id this resistor please
These are all GUESSES:
Guessed value is: 499KΩ ⅛W (yellow white white orange red?)
Guessed purpose for resistor: startup resistor for off-line SMPS
Guessed criticality of resistor value: fairly low
And agreed, that resistor may still be good, measure its resistance. As it's mechanical failure, it should fail open...

Re: Id this resistor please
I would agree 499K, there are 2 other resistors in series, R808A=1meg, R808B=1meg & R808C=499K.
I suspect R808C and R808D combined would = 1meg but instead of another surface mount 1meg and a jumper wire, they used 499k a regular 499k resistor to jump across the other traces

Re: Id this resistor please
Nah, the colors have faded due to some heating it seems. We weren't really using color, but judgement from seeing many similar designs.
Anyway, 503KΩ is within 1% of 499KΩ, so I think just reinstall that resistor.
At the worst the power supply is dead and you know which resistor is bad...

Re: Id this resistor please
Before I removed the small resistor I tried that. First replacing the large cap right beside it. The set would come on and work a while then shut off and the old cap was bulged badly. But as I said I thought I damaged that resistor but did leave it in place at first and the set would not even power up. So I made an assumption that it was bad. Ugg

Re: Id this resistor please
When you were replacing that cap, and damaged the resistor, Did you remove the 2 screws from the heatsink and bend it back to access the cap, by chance... If you did check the legs on the fet's to make sure they are not broken
Have you ever measured the voltage on the cap ? to see if you at least have 160v or 400v if the pfc is workingLast edited by R_J; 06-02-2018, 08:31 PM.

As R_J suggested, get us the part number of the IC (IC802) that it's connected to... then might be able to reverse engineer the value...
... or if someone somehow finds the schematic...
