    Manufacturers not cooling Intel graphics portion of the CPU

    What gives with manufacturers (Dell, Acer, ...) not cooling the Intel Graphics portion of the cpu ??

    Are you sure that's the integrated graphics and not the "chipset" or some embedded memory for the graphics part of the processor?

    Why wouldn't they incorporate the integrated graphics into the actual processor die ?

      i'v seen that done before.
      it could be that the heat from one die was so high that it actually heated the other up - so they removed a shim / skimmed the plate to prevent it.

        Could be the chipset, that would make stjs answer correct, as in newer laptops (HMxx) the chipset has no cooler on it, meaning the cpu die would only heat it up more.

        It was pretty strange to see the first time, we thought some one forgot a thermal pad or something, but the second time it was way more obvious its intentional.
