Pioneer RX-3700 - One channel not working

Hi guys a friend asked me to look at this receiver for him. He claims that the balance control doesn't work/only one side has sound.

I have like no experience dealing with receivers and they intimidate me a bit due to lack of knowledge on how preamps/amps work. Just very basic idea but never got involved.

I'm curious if anyone has ever fixed this particular model or came across a similar issue. I'll post pics when I get the receiver later today. For now I came across this for specs: https://www.waste.org/~msg/ebay/sx-3700/sx-3700.html

Also, I don't have any speakers to hook up except for ones pulled from a tv that are rated 10w 8ohms. Could I use them at a low volume just for testing? The receiver is rated 45w 8ohms per channel

It does. Use that for testing?

Did you already try activating TAPE MONITOR switches and other switches bunch of times to clean the contacts?

That's the first thing I intend on doing. I picked up some electrical cleaner and plan to try that first. I will keep you posted. Thanks for that pdf!

I think your being asked to try the headphone jack to isolate the problem in the amp or preamp stage.

no, just something to get some output without trashing speakers.

next is to try all inputs to see if the problem is total or only effecting some.
also, do you get hum on both channels?

Running out of Ideas, hoping someone smart can provide some for my ONKYO TX-SR353 Receiver
                  by CDNBrewer
                  Hello Everyone,

I have an Onkyo TX-SR353 Audio/Video Receiver (5.1 ch with HDMI) that I am having a really hard time diagnosing and I'm about to throw this in the junk and go buy a new unit that is on sale until the 7th.

                  Symptoms:
                  • Intermittent (part of the reason why i'm having a hard time isolating problem), sometimes will work for 10+h at a time without issue
                  • Original symptom was wife reported loud banging noise (like someone was banging on the wall with their fists) from the LEFT SURROUND speaker and then the unit shut off.
                  • I swapped the Left and Right surround
                  ...

                  Pioneer VSX-44 receiver HDMI dropouts
                  by RatherLoopy
I have an older Pioneer receiver (VSX-44) that's been dropping the HDMI output (black screen) for a few seconds every few minutes. Setup is HTPC -> Pioneer DVD HCMI in -> Pioneer HDMI out -> Samsung TV HDMI in, all with cheap HDMI cables that have never caused trouble before..

I initially found a lot of play in the receiver's HDMI inputs and output so I kind of squeezed them back into shape and they're making a tighter connection, but the problem persists.

And also, often, the HDMI will drop out in exactly the same way (black screen) just as my central air...

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
                  by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
                  by spleenharvester
                  Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

Pioneer VSX-1123 Receiver - weird voltage problem
                  by pulper111
Hello. My receiver "seems" to be working fine. It functions as it should. the receiver is the Pioneer vsx-1123. However, while doing some work in the house, I noticed that my HDMI cable from the receiver was registering as "hot" using my fluke non-contact voltage tester.

I've done some troubleshooting to try to narrow down the problem, and all wires (speaker/hdmi/subwoofer) coming from the receiver, whether it's powered on or stand-by, register as "hot". none of my other receivers are experiencing this issue, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with...
