    VGA LCD controllers

question about the LCD controllers that connect a panel to your VGA port.
theres some "universal" controllers on ebay and other places that are standalone and bypass all your existing boards except i guess for the tcon.

i got a free 37" 2006 model Philips TV that was wacked by lightening.
took out the guys modem and electric stove also.
rather than try to fix itwhich i'm not very good at. thought i would try one of these controllers.

However i cannot find one that lists the exact panel and a couple emails to sellers has not been succesful. I know there is a programmer for sale for those
but have yet to determine where the firmware library store for these are located.
Is there a popular forum that has alot of discussion on these devices?

the model of the Tv is 37pf963 and the panel is LK370t3lz Sharp in case anyone is better at finding the controller or firmware than i.
there may be another digit on the end of that panel number but i'm too lazy to go look right now.

    any help is much apreeshd.

    thx.

oh also theres a youtube on that Tv in repair if you search that model.
i'm thinking maybe try to satisfy power requirements to test the tuner board and inverters externally with other power sources if i can find the power requirements and pinouts.

    Magnavox question

I'm actually thinking about doing the same thing. I've got this circa-2007-ish 42" Magnavox LCD television that I can't seem to be able to sell. I was considering using it as a monitor, but the mainboard sucks and won't take native resolution through the HDMi port. I saw a video on YouTube where someone actually got it working with the existing power supply and a universal LCD controller; the problem is that he didn't go into enough detail for me to feel confident in doing it myself.

Anybody done this before with a larger panel or have any hints?

      Re: VGA LCD controllers

When I buy VGA-LCD controllers (for LCD conversions of equipment), I always buy the LCD panel to suit to be sure it is compatible (if I don't have the compatible panel!).

You would need to know the signalling levels and data format for the LCD panel as well, along with the controller.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Well, I'm not going to buy another panel, I'd be using the one I have already. The question is if these LG panels are compatible with the universal controllers (which I believe they are to some degree because of that video in which it is talked about briefly).

I don't remember it off-hand, but I think that is all in the panel's informational page on PanelLook. I'm not an LCD panel expert though, so I don't know what information is relevant to making sure that it is compatible with the universal controller.

          Re: VGA LCD controllers

i bought the $10 jumper style controller.
my research says its not safe to try it until the LVDS cable pinouts are verified.
have no idea how to do that.

the power relays click on and off unless i unplug the bottom right connector of the
audio board. it connects to the third connector from top left of the tuner board.
if i unplug that cable the backlight immediatley comes on with no input or buttonpress with seems a full glow around the edges. no button or controls seem to work at all.
any ideas for me please chime in.

was also thinking the surviving backlight is enough to start but to get dimmer control etc would probably want to find a single wire that cuts it off and run it thru a mosfet or something? attached to /( pwm'd by?) the inverter cable on the MT561?
