Working on replacing a component in an active amplified subwoofer (home theater) and it seems like a diode got molten hot and snapped. Only markings on it were: "P6KE1800" and underneath that was "SHS".

I've attached a picture of the culprit.

p6ke is a diode series.
are you sure about the 1800 bit?

Upon closer examination, it *might* be 180A?

That is the snubber diode which should be connected in series with another diode (probably D4, should be checked) and the whole thing is connected in parallel with the primary winding of the SMPS Transformer, so hopefully the VIPER 22 SMPS IC is not damaged.

budm: I replaced the diode and had it go into power protect mode (red light on the external part of the board.) I located the Viper SMPS on digikey and am getting ready to order that as well. While I am there, should I order anything else?

Did you get the red light before? It sounds like this standby power supply is working, protected mode may mean you also have the problem some where else, or may be i do not understand your explanation.

So that section of the circuit is working now then. You need to find out what trips the protection circuit next.
How about the pictures of the whole board top side and bottom side of the board plus the pictures of the whole unit you are working on?

So this Class D power amp module is probably the problem due to bad glues that turns dark color (when glue is new it has yellow color) and become conductive and also eat away the legs of the component.

You must remove ALL those glues. Right now you have a fault in that module.

BTW, I do not see the model number on the plate.

Also looks like (after whittling away that glue,) that the bottoms of those caps have pushed out.

You have 1 cap C101 and the two inductors L101, L102 (for the speaker output filter to filter out the Class D switching noise) where the glues are, so which cap?

Sorry, I missed the L's. 101 and 102 are both expanded out the bottom. But now it looks like I'm going to have to either replace the whole amp or the sub-board anyway. Stupid glue tore up the etchings.

Those bad glues are nasty, they will eat away copper traces and component's legs.
