What are the pro's and cons of replacing a 1/4 with a 1/2 resistor same ohms?

    Hello,
As the title says. I bought a cheap Asus ROG Strix 750-watt PSU, which was posted as defective. Cables are complete, and the entire PSU is in good condition, of course, aside from being faulty. Long story short, upon checking, there is no +5VSB. Looking at the components, I found a blown resistor. I swear, looking at the bands, the color is pink, pink, gold, gold. I dunno if I'm color blind or this is the way resistors are coded.

Please help, did I decode it correctly at 2.2 ohms (red, red, gold, gold), or what could a pink, pink, gold gold value be? I bought a 2.2ohms, but it was a 1/2 watts can I use this 1/2 W replacement over a 1/4. The resistor is located in the PCB R105.

    hi ,there
it does look pick on pic but am sure its red.. you can use the 1/2 watt over the 1/4 just as long as the resistance is the same. the 1/2 watt would be more durable.

      resistor colours dont include pink.
and resistors dont burn for no reason - you have a bigger issue to find.

Most likely, it is the current resistor R501 that is located in the U501 PWM standby mode harness.

"there is no +5VSB".......... is it shorted to ground? Diode usualy die.

It's unlikely that the problem is in the diodes, but rather in the PWM.

              Quick update:

Been away for a while, my son got hospitalised, but we are home now. To answer the questions, I changed the 1/4 watts to 1/2, which fits snuggly (Red, red, gold, gold ), and the thing fired up.

              resistor colours dont include pink.

              .

I agree with you, I forgot to mention in the post that I found some kind of bug or small insects inside when I first opened the PSU that might have contributed to the resistor short.

Most likely, it is the current resistor R501 that is located in the U501 PWM standby mode harness.
I'm no expert, I think you're right that the resistor goes to the relay, which is part of the PWM.

              Code:
there is no +5VSB".......... is it shorted to ground? Diode usualy die.
No, it's not shorted to ground, no diode is busted.

Dell 2209WA - power supply - Fusible Resistor replacement
                by jinu_j
                Hi

I am trying to repair an ancient Dell 2209WA Monitor which suddenly shut off with a pop sound. On investigation found that one of the fusible resistors had blown. Further investigation identified multiple components as faulty because of which the fusible resistor blew. Please refer the attached circuit diagram showing the components that were found to be damaged.

                1. FR950 - blown fusible resistor - 0.2 Ohm 1W
                2. Q950 - shorted Q950 MOSFET - 650V 10A N Channel Mosfet
                3. R835 - Blown Resistor - 20KOhm SMD resistor
                4. D930 - Shorted Schottkey Diode...

Need help to replace burned resistor in 350w atx psu
                by mikey5791
                Hi to all forum members,

Got this faulty 350 watt atx psu dirt cheap from a local online seller as i am keen to use it as a learning tool to repair faulty power supply.
The faulty part is quite obvious from the burn area near the 16pin KA7500 BD pwm. The fuse is still intact with good continuity.

Upon power on ac, there is 5vdc standby power on cathode of diode D14 and about 10vdc on cathode of diode D13.(This should be the aux power to generate the 12v and 5v rail.)
Initially i replace the two burned resistors near my marked red arrow to 200 ohm resistor...
