    Synchronous Motor 220v 10rpm CCW

Hi I am looking to replace a small motor in an electric fire that drives the flame effect roller. Model is a 42TYJ ( Nothing else) but I cant find an exact replacement.
I am currently looking at various similar ones from China Including this one
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CCW-CW-Dir...item1c35b1df96

Problem I have with a lot of them is that whilst main specs are ok they are described in Direction as being CW/CCW and I was wondering if anyone knows what this means. ( I know it means clockwise/counter clockwise.)
Does this mean that it just sets off in whatever direction it feels like it or is there some way of controlling that. I dont think there is anything on the fire it seems to power direct from the mains in - not via any boards.
I tried emailing a couple of sellers but no reply. I can see that in a microwave or christmas tree lights it doesnt matter but in a fire I think I has to go anticlockwise so the "flames" go up
    Anyone else played with these

direction is probably random based on the internal position of the parts when power is applied.
i have something very similar in an oscilating fan.

if i keep cutting and applying the power, the direction fluctuates randomly.

If it is reversible then it should have more than two wires and the cap is also needed.

Thanks chaps - I reckon the cw/ccw ones are random direction. The one I am replacing has only two wires. When I get time I will take an angle grinder to it and see what is inside.
Maybe something inside stops it going one way so it has to go the other. Sounds like a coffee grinder at the moment so dont think its fixable - wont be by the time I get it apart !!

try to open it carefully, it may just need the gearbox greased.

ive replaced hundreds of these in disco lights,(moon flower ,roboscan, mirror balls,etc,9 times out of ten,the gearbox drys up causing grinding noise, and i use PTFE grease to fix, sync motors usually have 3 wires ,found in sound to light disco lights, that give the reverse "jerky" movement, mirror ball motors have 2 wire for continuous one way direction, normally 5-10RPM,if you cant fix the one you have ,use a microwave oven turntable motor, the same thing .

im currently fixing a 500mw laser effect one,the heat has dried up the motors for the mirrors, riddled with dry joints too.
fixed so far...376 lg lcd tv's,24 onn tv;s,24 panasonic lcd,16 jvc lcd,12 marshall jcm800 amps, refurb of various disco equipment lighting, old style disco decks ,and a flymo!

As to cw or ccw , it would be my guess that the motor has slectable wiring to make it start cw or ccw . Switch the red and black wires inside the motor , move #5 and #8 , ect.

Re: Synchronous Motor 220v 10rpm CCW

Just to close this, I eventually got around to opening it up and it did have 3 wires not 2.
Had 2 from the mains but there is something encapsulated which might be relevant to the direction thing as there is then 3 wires into the motor.
I didnt cut into it as I want to wait until I have a replacement.
The bearings have just worn away and cleaning and repacking with grease made it better
than it was but still too noisy. I am going to get one of the CW/CCW motors and try that
even if it means switching on and off a few times to get the direct right.

Nescafe Aeroccino, still fails with new Motor (red flashes only once)
                    by juergenb
                    Hi,

i am asking for some Help.
I have one of these Nescafe Aeroccino (Milk Frother) things with a bad motor.
The Motor didn´t start anymore and internet is full of users just swapping the motor for a Mabuchi RF-500TB-12560.
So i got a few of these from Banggood.

I swapped the motor and now i have a new fault condition.

In a working Frother you would press the start button, it will light red and work for a few minutes.
If you press longer it will light blue and just mixup the milk.

With the new Motor it just starts...

charnwood w821 mini wood lathe motor problem
                    by sbt123
hi there,im having a look at repairing a wood lathe for my dad,(charnwood w821)the problem is when turning up the variable speed control, the motor starts to stop and start by itself,if i continue to turn up the speed it will trip the mcb in the consumer unit, there is also a slight smell of burning from the speed controll box.,Another strange symptom is the lathe can be unplugged from the mains after switching it off and the motor will spin a couple of times by itself,so far ive put a new speed controll potentiometer on and new motor brushes, ive also tested the motor windings and everything looks...

Fender Mustang non valve guitar amp - owner connected 110v amp to 220v.
                    by t4796
                    Hi all,

I recently picked up this amp as not working. I took it as is. Didn't notice until I got home it had foreign power plug and was marked 110v and our local voltage is 220v so then I knew what had happened to it.

Opened it up and was able to find the schematic online. In the schematic I have uploaded I have erased the parts for 220v operation to make it easier for me to visualise however I have since added the two additional diodes and remove the wire link from the power supply so I can test it easier on 220v

From the FAQ I learnt that for 110v the power...

Motor run capacitor physical size vs voltage rating & measurements?
                    by Per Hansson
                    (TL;DR skip the first paragraph)
I encountered my first dead motor run capacitor at a customer this week.
For some fields I guess it is a very common occurrence but the usual way for industrial machines here is to use 3-phase motors.
(Unless a servo motor makes more sense that is).
But for some reason this 3-phase machine uses a 1-phase motor for its liquid coolant pump.
The pump would run but sometimes trip the 10A breaker.
I monitored it starting and stopping for over an hour until it finally stopped in a specific spot between its windings:
                    Then it could...

                    Help identify this motor
                    by mikey5791
                    Hi all forum members,
Found this unknown motor discarded in a junk yard and took home for learning experience. By the look of it, I suspect it is taken out from a type of air blower probably running on ac power. I used digital multimeter on ohm/resistance scale and it doesn't read anything on those 2 black wires. So, this motor is not shorted and should be good to run.

Correct me if i am wrong on the initial test.
Can anyone kindly advice on how to test run this motor based on visible external two black wires. Fyi, i don't see any marking on the motor body nor smell anything...
