Re: resistor wattage help
tried bridging the 5.3v to ps-on,with a 30 ohm 5 watt (ish) resistor and measuring across them i get 5.3v ,which is now stable and not cycling, but still no other voltages coming up at other connectors on the psu, there must be more pins that need joining to fully power up the psufixed so far...376 lg lcd tv's,24 onn tv;s,24 panasonic lcd,16 jvc lcd,12 marshall jcm800 amps, refurb of various disco equipment lighting, old style disco decks ,and a flymo!

Re: resistor wattage help
When you you apply the 5v to the PS_ON, that large filter voltage should go up to around 400Vdc, if not, then the PFC circuits are not working, that will be the starting point to look for the cause of the problems.Never stop learning

Re: resistor wattage help
ok,main board disconnected i get 328v dc at the filter cap.
main board connected i get 385v dc.
ps-on jumperd with resistor to 5v, i get 385v dc ,no main board connected
seems the pfc circuit is working
on one of the optocouplers in the feedback circuit, i get cycling voltage, all the optocouplers have been tested and confirmed good, led side, and the transistor side.in a bit il write down all the connector pins with there outputs ,someone might be able to identify which pins have to be jumperd, then il be able to put light bulbs on the output pins to gnd ,and see if this thing will fire up with no main board connected which it should do!im at a bit of a loss with this one,and with no schematic dosent help at allfixed so far...376 lg lcd tv's,24 onn tv;s,24 panasonic lcd,16 jvc lcd,12 marshall jcm800 amps, refurb of various disco equipment lighting, old style disco decks ,and a flymo!

Re: resistor wattage help
Yes the PFC is working, PS_ON is working (it is used to turn on the PFC and the 12/24v switching supply section), the only thing that is not working is the 12V/24V switching power supply circuits, it cycling on and off right now. I will have to do more thinking about this since we cannot find the digarm, but I am sure at this point we know which section is bad. I may ask you for more closed up pictures of the 12/24 switching power supply section so we can trace out the connection.
We may have to look at the starting cap in the 12/24V SMPS section.
We need good clear pictures of the bottom side of the board also.Last edited by budm; 05-11-2012, 11:19 AM.Never stop learning

Re: resistor wattage help
ok,the optocoupler that is cycling is opto number 4 on your picture, the module that you highlighted has been replaced with a brand new one, these have been a high failure in other samsung psu's,also the pwm has been replaced also, and also the start up cap replaced (panasonic fm),all other caps have tested good for capacitance and esrfixed so far...376 lg lcd tv's,24 onn tv;s,24 panasonic lcd,16 jvc lcd,12 marshall jcm800 amps, refurb of various disco equipment lighting, old style disco decks ,and a flymo!

Re: resistor wattage help
So what is that module, it is not the SMPS module? Which PWM IC was repalced? The one for the 12/24V power supply. I cannot tell much since I do not have the pictures of the bottom side of the board.
I expect the #1 OPTO ot be the one that is cycling since it is closed to the 12/24Vdc section, not sure what #4 is for yet.Never stop learning

Re: resistor wattage help
the module is a F9222L ic,not exactly sure what it does, but has been a failiure in the past, the other chip i replaced was a viper12a 8 pin, just left of the small standby transformer, above the 3 resistors you pointed out earlier for testingfixed so far...376 lg lcd tv's,24 onn tv;s,24 panasonic lcd,16 jvc lcd,12 marshall jcm800 amps, refurb of various disco equipment lighting, old style disco decks ,and a flymo!

Re: resistor wattage help
Oh OK, you replaced the Standby SMPS IC, Viper12A for the 5Vstby.
I believe that module is the SMPS module for the 12/24vdc switching power supply.Never stop learning

Re: resistor wattage help
Here is a link to a BN44-00155A power supply which may be close enough. http://www.eserviceinfo.com/download...44-00155A.html
RM801 is a .22ohm 1W resistor. It's in series with the main switching FETS. It sounds like the supply is cycling on and off, often caused by an overload on one or more of the rails. Disconnect each of the rails until the rails remain steady.
Good luck.Comment

I am trying to repair an ancient Dell 2209WA Monitor which suddenly shut off with a pop sound. On investigation found that one of the fusible resistors had blown. Further investigation identified multiple components as faulty because of which the fusible resistor blew. Please refer the attached circuit diagram showing the components that were found to be damaged.
1. FR950 - blown fusible resistor - 0.2 Ohm 1W
2. Q950 - shorted Q950 MOSFET - 650V 10A N Channel Mosfet
3. R835 - Blown Resistor - 20KOhm SMD resistor
4. D930 - Shorted Schottkey Diode...-

by mikey5791Hi to all forum members,
Got this faulty 350 watt atx psu dirt cheap from a local online seller as i am keen to use it as a learning tool to repair faulty power supply.
The faulty part is quite obvious from the burn area near the 16pin KA7500 BD pwm. The fuse is still intact with good continuity.
Upon power on ac, there is 5vdc standby power on cathode of diode D14 and about 10vdc on cathode of diode D13.(This should be the aux power to generate the 12v and 5v rail.)
Initially i replace the two burned resistors near my marked red arrow to 200 ohm resistor... -
I am curious if a 0402 resistor could go from 43 ohm to 0. In electronics class and my experience a resistor can degrade and gain resistance all the way up to not being able to conduct at all. I have never heard of a resistor decreasing in resistance and becoming 0 ohm or a dead short… that's not the direction they fail… or so I thought.
I was attempting to remove a wson8 chip on an iMac motherboard and it required a lot of heat, on one side of the chip were 3 0402 resistors that were very close. I popped the chip out unintentionally out of the tweezers and sent those resistors... -
by artvandalaiThe resistor on this waterpik blew. I changed it with the a similar spec 47ohm 2 watt yageo resistor but it still keeps blowing the resistor. Checking with the multimeter the motor, capacitor, diodes, and thermal fuse all checked normal. Will a higher ohm resistor work better? What ohm resistor will work better to repair this waterpik? This video is showing the repair with a 56 ohm resistor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J7_rV7ui1Y3 Photos

by chth96I have purchased an 100-240v AC/5v 2a DC adaptor from aliexpress, and a month ago It smelled burning when I plugin it powerstrip.
Since then, This AC/DC adaptor have been out of order.
But A few days ago,I replace 0.5 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor(1ohm) in this adapter.
After replacing resistor,It succeed to recharge all of android phone. And When I measure voltage on the two pins of USB port,It shows 5.5v
Is it okay to replace 1/2 watt resistor with 1 watt resistor in AC/DC adapter?
And Is there any possibility that it will suddenly explode as well as to be out... - Loading...
