Help to identify Tele-handler joystick potentiometer component.

    HI all.
I am trying to identify the following component.
It is a potentiometer of some sort.
It has been removed from a Tele-handler joystick.
I have never seen a component like it & dont know what its called to search for it.
It receives a 9 volt DC supply then gives an output from 3-9 volts depending on position.
I have multiple photos but the track inside is broken & needs replacing.
The problem being that the machine is over 20 years old & no longer made, the manufacturer no longer exists and there isnt any replacement units available. There is a company that does a service exchange unit but my customer has already tried that (This is an exchange unit) and it's never worked properly.

Any help in identifying it would be greatly appreciated or any ideas on replacement components.

    Thanks

    can you strip it?

I have striped it, will upload some photos in a bit when I work out how.

Some photos of component stripped are attached.

          Re: Help to identify component.

I would look for any tiny letters or logo or numbers on anywhere on it, usually on the plastics, with a magnifier to see who manufactured it.
I think the joystick potentiometer guts are a custom ceramic thick film part. It could be used in a family of joysticks. Measure end-end ohms I guess.

It might be worth it to consider a substitute part. I found lots image search under "Tele-handler joystick".

Maybe replace then the whole joystick if you can’t find parts for the old one?

what is this junk fitted to?
i say junk because they should have used hall-effect sensing

btw, you say it's an exchange part that never worked properly.
talk to the owner about the original fault.
maybe the problem is upstream in the electronics.

                Stj,
                Its definatly a component fault.

Re: Help to identify Tele-handler joystick potentiometer component.

A cromagnon will resort to violence when the joystick doesn't respond.
I would also suggest just fitting a new, modern joystick becasue the substrate is cracked and the wipers could also be worn out.
You'd need a schematic for it, to save the old machine. Some joysticks have a lot of switched and buttons on them. It might be dual-track for a safety aspect.
