Well I installed the new capacitor and there was a pop noise and it blew the main fuse on the board it going to be used as parts for the remaining board that is in service now

Not worth the time to investigating what has happened to it no real obvious damage that could see I might look at it again with a magnifying glass and see if I find anything doing this

This project was a success I now have a very good working high pressure sodium yard light that I rebuilt so hopefully it will last for at another 5 years or more I hope it will

Well I finally put the light fixture together but decided not use the low profile yard light because it close to the street and other one that is close to the street is the same style so they complement each other plus the tall version has the external photo eye that is electronic version I just have to replace the light pole that I have the fixture because it has rotated away and I do not want to have to do this twice

I have come to the conclusion that the high pressure sodium yard light that was cycling when the air conditioning would turn on well turned out that there must be something wrong with the transformer because I found the other new transformer with the new ballast ( in one of the storage containers ) and used an old bulb that the fixture would cycle of when the air conditioner would come on it does not do this now not only that but the bulb gets bright faster than the old transformer and ballast plus if you unplug it when it gets to full brightness then wait a minute and plug it back into power again it gets bright very fast the other on would flicker a bunch of times and maybe restart again

I know that this is an old post but because of me getting home when it is dark again I need to get this light fixture working again
I had time to find it because I been off from work since Thursday for thanksgiving and will go back to work Monday morning again

One note the florescent light that has the electronic ballast the bulb went out twice in very short time so who knows what is causing this situation I sure would like to know because I have two of them that are exactly the same one of them work great the other one is a problem child I will have to investigate this more thoroughly when I put the high pressure sodium light fixture back out there and take the fluorescent light fixture back off again

well i just replaced the led lamp in my hallway for the second time this year.

plastic, aluminium, tin, copper etc to the landfill and it cost 3x the price of an incan.
but i'm saving the enviroment if you believe the fucking politicians!

Well just recently I had another issue with my high pressure sodium light by the street this one has worked for several years with out any issues until it just would not turn on

You can hear the transformer humming a little bit but it was not lighting up at all at first I thought it was a bad transformer but I put a different one in there and it still did not work transformer still humming a little bit so I changed the circuit board that fires the light bulb and that did not help either it turns out that the bulb had some type of issue that I had not seen before because I put bulb in my other fixture and it would flicker a few times and has a strange blue color and then flicker again a few times and even in this fixture the transformer was humming a little where as the original bulb works with out the transformer humming

I just replaced the transformer and the circuit board that fires a metal halide bulb that is 100 watt version only because I had a new transformer and circuit board for I just need a bulb for it

Buying LED modular lighting fixtures are hit and miss type of thing the problem is that you do not know if you are buying good quality ones or crap ones

I had the same problem with the fart fan over my shower. LED bulb, lucky to get a week out of it. CFL or Incandescent, no problems.

these look well designed - but they are directional - ok for high-bay lamps but not for side-reflector housings

This....and one of the reason I won't replace my HID (metal halide) garage lighting for LED.

For household stuff, LED is fine....but for high brightness situations (industrial, street lighting, etc), they've got some more maturing to do.

I wonder how easy it would be to lower the current of these LED lightbulbs

I am not impressed with the quality of the ones that you remove the ballast wiring I personally have better results from the type that you leave the ballast in place and used them like had before I had one set last at least 6 years and it runs at least 40 hours a week ( 32280 hours they are rated 36000 hours so I came very close over even maybe little bit more than that ) one note the light output was a little higher than the set that I have now in this light fixture these are

This is the type that I use

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-...2100/308735129

I work at a place that use the type that you remove the ballast and they start failing about 6 months later granted they are running for at least 20 hours a day 5 to 6 days a week but still that not good results

I have seen them at Home Depot but I was not sure of their quality and weather or not it was worth the money

These are not Keystone brand but Feit Electric brand I do not anything about there quality as far as the LED Cob light ( but these you have to remove the ballast from the fixture to be able to use them ( I have thought about trying one and see if it is worth the money or not)

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Feit-Ele...HDRP/312523993

I have to ask have you used there products your self

LED lighting is not magic and long lasting.

Double check that marketing claim "50,000-hour lifetime" verses the actual "warranty". You can see how hot the corn cob runs in the fixture with little air circulation. The semiconductors, the capacitor's, the LED's, the phosphor - all age and can't take the heat well. The lamps go dim, turn purple or just outright fail. Many of them are even using cooling fans, as if that will last for years.

I did see some warranties are like 3 years for the LED's only and 2 years for the power supply, or "Lamp warranty does not apply to vapor-tight fixture applications", or "maximum of 4,380 hours/year (equal to 12 hours/day, 365 days/year)" kind of loopholes.
GE: "Life 50,000 hour rated" = "... warranty five (5) years from the date of manufacture, and (ii) 22,000 hours of operation."

For an LED lamp warranty claim, factor in your time+labour and shipping the fixture off and see how much that will cost.

Detroit's new LED cobrahead streetlights that died 10yr warranty, it was a fiasco. Detroit's Public Lighting Authority had to sue Leotek Electronics and the Korean LED (lite-on) company.
But who would pay to take them out and replace them? Not part of any warranty and the city had contracted the streetlamp service to a third-party. I think they got $4M of $7-9M costs. So sad.

Surprisingly, HPS can still give LED's a run for the money and is at least repairable.
Keystone seems to have a good product line.

    now wait and see.
the problem with a lot of led lights - not all but a lot, is the lifespan is pretty fucking far from what they promise.
also they generally cant compete for Lumens.

We have about a dozen of HPS 70 watt outside fixtures at our strip mall. Installed in 1976. Constance maintenance of bulbs and the ballast. All repairs 15 feet up on a ladder.

Last summer we started rebuilding the fixtures to use corn cob 100 Watt eq direct wire LED bulbs. Left the old electronics in place and 120 V AC and neutral direct to bulb socket. About half the cost of HPS bulb and new electronics kit and 50K hours warranty.

Same thing inside with ~ 100 two tube 8 ft florescent and ballast. Replaced with 2 8 ft LED tubes, rewire fixture and remove old ballast. Again half the cost, lower power use, less heat and 50K warranty on the tubes.

NO Hg clean up if a tube brakes.

You are very right about this but I just leave them in there until they start giving problems then I will get a replacement bulb or if another bulb in another fixture is not showing signs of failure issues then I assume that there is an issue with the light fixture itself which might not be the best way to do this I really do not have an answer for this question at this point in time
