RT809F faulty?

Hi all,

I have recently purchased the RT809F and am doing some test dumps/erase/reads of bios chips before I attempt anything in anger. While my unit is capable of identifying the correct chip types, it keeps telling me there is no chip attached.

I've tried both the clip and the spring loaded holder that came with the unit, both are giving me the same result. I've cleaned the legs of my test chips with alcohol, lightly sanded them and cleaned them up with an eraser! Here's an example;

Verification apparently successful. After erasing the chip, and reading it back I get 'Chip is empty, all are 0xFF!', the contents change after writing the image.. So why at every step does it say that there is no chip and I have to 'Ignore' to get the programmer to do anything? This doesn't give me any confidence that this unit is working as it should.. Should I return it ? Is this experience common?

try a different usb cable first - and use a different socket on the computer too.

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried both different cable and a front port instead of rear, got the same and a new error;

sounds like a faulty programmer.
i would try it on a different machine just to confirm 100% that it's the programmer.
but right now i'm already 99% sure it's the problem

i'm having the same problem. have you found a solution? I've changed the cable, changed the software, replaced the laptop and replaced the bios chip, the result is still the same.

That programmer is powered by 9v, had the same problem and connected it to a 9v lab power supply and never had the problem again.

I think Connector 5.5mm x 2.1mm goes

Probably the ZIF socket is bad, but also could be an adapter that’s faulty, or the adapter / chip in backwards.

The thing is, when you buy that programmer, you don't get a power adapter, just a usb cable.

My RT809H didn’t come with a psu either. So far I didn’t need it. Not sure about the F version.

Just remove the 1,8v adapter
use the rt809f programer directly 👌👍😁
