Air supply for PACE desoldering station

    Hi,
I've being using a PACE MBT-200 desoldering station with internal vacuum pump with a SX55 desoldering iron which has stopped working. The heater module of the iron seems dead. Since a replacement part is quite expensive, I decided to upgrade to a newer station and got a ST 65. However, I have some questions on how to feed this unit with compressed air which I hope can be answered here.

    The manual states:
«*The ST 65 system utilizes an integral air venturi system to provide air pressure and vacuum for any connected PACE handpiece requiring air/vacuum. Your in-house air supply must be connected to the system power source.*The system must be connected to a clean, dry, and filtered, compressed air supply regulated to 5.48 Bar (80 P.S.I.). The Air Hose Fitting on the rear of the ST 65 requires a 1/8-27 NPT threaded airline fitting.»

I am therefore now trying to find a suitable compressed air source to feed the ST 65, preferably as a compact, quiet and easy to operate unit.

    - are 12V mini air compressors plugging into a car cigarette lighter adapter usable with desoldering stations ?
If so, is it better to get one exactly rated at 80 PSI, or one rated higher with an adjustable pressure and an automatic switch-off feature once the target pressure has been reached ?

    - would a fridge compressor be a better option ? Does it then need a pressure switch to make sure that the pressure feeding the ST 65 is within a given range ?

    - could the vacuum pump of the MBT 200 station be modified to run as a compressor ? is it going to provide enough pressure ?

    Thanks !

    wont be cheap.
    you need a compressor, a pressure vessel, a regulator-valve, a filter or 2, a centrifugal moisture-extractor and possibly more.

thanks for your answer. I did not realize that supplying air to this station would be that tedious...

it's designed for a shop with lots of stations and a central air supply.

If you do get it working it will not let you down.

18VDC PSU completely dead - ZD-915 desoldering station
            by armini
            Hi everyone!

Three years ago I got a ZD-915 desoldering station which failed just after a few months of light use. During a short desoldering session, the station simply shut down, and since then it has been completely dead and unresponsive. The failure was silent, without any pops.

Due to a lack of time, I set it aside and didn't look at it.

Yesterday, I took it apart and did some basic measurements. The 18v terminal shows 0v. In addition, there is no visible damage to the board itself.

According to replies in 18VDC PSU has dropped to...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Desoldering station ZD 915 no indications, no heating
            by rippergr
            Hello all,
I tried to power on my desoldering station ZD915 today and altough the LCD has power and it's on I don't have any indications on the screen and the gun is not heating at all.
I open it up and I don't see any visual fault anywhere.
Does anyone has any clue what should I check?

Hoover FM216LI cordless vacuum refuses to charge
            by flat-earther
I have a Hoover FM216LI cordless vacuum which isn't charging its internal battery.

I opened up the unit, and it has 6x Samsung ICR18650-22P cells connected in series.
5 cells were at about 3.3-3.1V. one was at 2.4V, so I assumed this cell was bad that's why the vacuum wasn't charging so I replaced it with another 18650, but after that the problem still persists, the vacuum turns on a bit and then cuts out since the batteries are empty.

So I think the over discharged battery wasn't the culprit, it was a symptom of the unit not being able to charge its batteries....

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
