Any opinions on either this ESR meter kit website?

I'm finally almost ready to get an esr meter, decided on a kit so I can get some extra familiarity with it, here's what I'm considering:

Any comments yea or neigh, any one done business with the website?

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Mike

$40 for a first generation esr meter in bits vs $15 for a second gen graphic version built?
that 1st gen unit will be almost useless with the newer software.

if you really want to build one, look at this.

2nd gen design with graphic display and rotary encoder.

      Hmm, that looks pretty tempting, except I've never bought anything over the web with a CC;
After reading about their version, I was going to ask 'em about using a gift card or prepaid debit card, but found that I'd have to register, plus enable javascript to use that function, which is something I generally avoid doing.

      In their description they say,

      "Capacitance measurement range from 25pf to 100mF (10 万 UF)" ,

do you happen to know whether they actually mean 'milli-' or 'micro-' farad? that chinese-looking character in parentheses kinda throws me. I'm also wondering what they mean by the phrase 'European resistance', I'd look at the detailed instructions except I'd have to register to do that as well.

Anyway, thanks for pointing out that newer model, now I have some questions I need to ask the DIY-place.

There are other sources for the equivalent device and I'm surprised STJ didn't point you to his thread on upgrading one of these:

Oh yeah, if I am not mistaken that "mF" is actually millifarads cuz I know them suckers don't stop at 100 uF.

Thanks for your reply. I've been following the ESR upgrade thread, this talk of 'software'
kinda spooks me a little bit. I guess I'll try to see if I can use a prepaid debit card with alibaba (without enabling javascript). I don't hold much hope for that, though...it's hard being a luddite sometimes.

You don't have to do the upgrade stuff, the tester works great as is.

Cool - I'm looking forward to finally having a way to test for esr, plus the other functions the meter is capable of doing. Also have a growing collection of replaced capacitors, some bulging, some not...
