    Buying used Metcal stations

Hi all, this is my first post on this great forum.

I have a question for people in Europe - if you'd want to buy a used Metcal station, where would you look for it? I tried ebay, but I get very few results, and half of them are books by various people called "Metcal". The actual stations that are for sale are way too expensive. I'm looking for something below 150 pounds/euro, and not the OKI PS-800/900 models.

So, what should I do? Just follow the auctions, hoping that I will find a deal that suits me? Are there any forums with a sell/buy section where I would have more chances in finding someone who wants to sell a used station?

Well, I guess I'll just follow the auctions. It seems there's a station popping on from time to time. The problem is mainly the shipping to my country.

Is there a reason why you're specifically looking for a Metcal?

You could get a Hakko new for much less. On the higher end you have the FX-951 a digital model with cartridge tips that can be hot swapped since they have integrated heating elements.

If you're on a budget they have a basic temperature regulated iron with a temperature control POT the FX-888. The heating element is with the iron on this model and you only swap tips.

As for avoiding overseas shipping you'd have to go to the manufacturers website and find a distributor in your area.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.
