BlackJack SolderWerks Soldering Station w/Digital Display BK2000+

I brought this BlackJack SolderWerks Soldering Station w/Digital Display (BK2000+) from http://circuitspecialists.com about six months ago. It was working great up until now.

    http://www.circuitspecialists.com/prod.itml/icOid/9748

What started happening ? when I was soldering an component the soldering iron temperature will drop from 400 deg F to about 360 deg F and then slowly rise back up to the set temperature. And then the temperature will not hold steady. At first I thought it was a failing heating element.

After changing the heating element and I was still having the same problem. So I when ahead an open up the soldering station itself. I found a simple circuit board with a some resistors, 4) diode, 1 Triacs Thyristor,Triac & SCR Output Optocouplers Phototriac, 1) 6 volt regulator, and 2) 470uf @ 35v caps

The two 470uf caps was an unknown brand that I never heard of. So I remove them both and begin to take measurement with my esr meter and with my cap meter.

The strange thing was both caps pass on the esr meter but the reading was strange with my cap meter. The cap meter reading will slowly rise to the value of the cap. it look like my cap meter was having a hard time charging each caps. So I replace them both with low esr Panasonic caps and now my soldering station is working great. The temperature is holding very steady. I almost willing to say its working better that before!!!

Nice fix. That's where I bought my CSI701smd. It's not digital, just has an led to show when it is up to temp. I will have to open it up now as I have similar problem with iron not staying at temp correctly.

This prompted me to take apart my Aoyue 2900, which has been driving me crazy by losing temperature and beeping. It had two seedy-looking 470uf 25V "XRD" caps, white print on a black sleeve. Replaced with Panasonic FC just on principle. The XRD caps test fine for capacitance and ESR.

The actual problem is probably the electrical connection between the handle and tip, or maybe the cable. Decent capacitors won't do any harm, though.

        Sounds like high leakage.
        Sort of like partially shorted.
Might be giving 'false-low' on ESR meter too.

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
          by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

What soldering station should I purchase for 900M-TJ-I tip?
          by chth96
          hello.
A few months ago,I have purchased 0.1mm Soldering Iron Tip of below aliexpress link,But I noticed that It is totally impossible to use this 0.1mm iron tip in the T12 soldering station
          https://ko.aliexpress.com/item/4001275635593.html
Is there any good soldering station which is possible to use 900M-TJ-I tip and have inexpensive or reasonable price in aliexpress?
          Any reply would be appreciated.

Recommendations of quality soldering station and (separate) hot air station
          by caprider
          Hey,

I'm looking for some recommendations of a decent quality soldering station and a separate hot air station. I'm just a hobbyist, so even if (ultra)premium tools are not required, I still want some good tools. They should be available in Europe.

I now have a TS100 and some soldering irons and looking for some better tools.

          1. Soldering station, budget around 200-240€
JBC BT-2BWA seems to be a good product in the budget.

          2. Hot air station, budget around 200€
Up to now I've found ATTEN ST-862D to be a good option....

KSGER C245 Soldering station PSU 220V only?
          by mkbehbeh
I purchased this soldering station when it was on sale at amazon. It had a slew of one star reviews, but the price was low enough that even if the controller and PSU were toast, the handle tips and stand were worth more than the price. All of the reviews mentioned that the unit was either DOA, or died on the first use. I looked on Aliexpress and the first clue was that KSGER still sold the 220V version of this station, but all of the 110V versions had been discontinued. I figured That there was a problem with the 110V on the power suppply and the controller would be fine.

          I am...

Yihua 992DA+ Hot air gun and soldering rework station, burnt mark
          by Peter_1402
          Hi Everyone,
I bought a Yihua 992DA+ hot air gun and soldering iron unit from a used market.
          1. Soldering iron works great
          2. There is a burnt mark on the hot air gun handle.
I am a bit concern by the look of the melted plastic. I opened the hot air gun handle and took some readings with a multimeter.
Heating element ~ 75ohm. (Similar reading taken from a spare heating element that came with the unit.)
Thermocouple ~ 1.5ohm. (Similar reading from the spare heating element.)
Reed switch tested ok with a magnet.
From the above test, I can conclude...
