    Vizio E480i-B2 Won't Turn On DPS-167DP IC901

    Working on a Vizio E480i-B2 that won't turn on, no lights, nothing. I took the back cover off and found a broken component on the power supply board.
    (I did create a new thread, to help others with this exact TV & issue)

    The board is a Delta DPS-167DP 056.04146.000 and IC901 on the board has a large chunk of it missing. I believe IC901 = part #LD7913JGM6. I read the other two threads on here that had information about this issue to try and begin looking for other possible bad components.

    It seems I have three options:
    1. Buy a replacement board for $45+/-. I have not found any 056.04146.000 boards for sale, but I have found 056.04146.001's for sale. The two look identical, is there any reason I couldn't use the 001?
    2. Send the board in to be repaired $52+/-.
    3. Repair the board myself $12+/- plus whatever other parts someone could help me locate.

    So far I have tested R915 and it read 4.7 Ohms, R907A & B read 00.5 Ohms. D950b read 00.5 Ohms & .000 and beeped on Diode test setting when tested in either direction.

    I would like to know where else to look and what else to test.

    Diodes don't beep, lift a leg and see if it still beeps and .5 ohms is way too low, it's no good.

      TY, so I need to replace the diode at D950b too, I believe it is a "Schottky Diode 100V 3A"

      What else should I be looking for that would have either caused the IC901 chip to explode or caused damage to when it did?

        suggest you check the mosfet transistor connected to ic901 for shorts. it might be under the heatsink above ic901.

          IC901 is the standby ic, it does not drive any mosfets, It could be that it just failed and replacing it will restore the standby voltage, D950b is a schottky diode and will have a lower voltage drop in diode test. .5xx ~.3xx is normal in diode test. BEEPS don't mean anything when checking components.
          There are a few zener diodes (ZD90x) around ic901, check that they are not shorted

            Thank you R_J
            So replace the IC901, the schottky diode should be ok.

            All these were tested with the board removed and the neg lead on the black banded side of the diode with the meter set to diode mode.
            ZD900=.651
            ZD902=.584
            ZD904=.667
            ZD907=.637
            ZD909=.000 & beeps(I know you said it didn't matter but I just wanted to throw it out there for reference)

            Is it possible that only the IC901 is bad?

            Also while browsing You Tube videos I found Vizio power supply boards like these have a bad solder joint(CN202) issue where the two boards attach to one another.
            So I looked at mine and sure enough when I move the black plug back an forth I can see a couple of the soldered pins on the bottom of the board underneath move.
            Could that have caused IC901 to "blow"?
            Not like it really matters, I just need to know what to fix to get my TV up and running again.

              "ZD909=.000 & beeps(I know you said it didn't matter but I just wanted to throw it out there for reference)" Did you re-test this one off the board?

                ZD909 is across the two current sense resistors, R907A,R907B so one end od ZD909 will need to be removed to check it, It is possible it is shorted, if it checks ok out of circuit it is likely ok.

                  No I haven't, I thought it may have read that way on the meter due to R907A&B being between it on the underside of the board.

                  Both R907A&B test 00.5 Ohms.

                  I have been hesitant to desolder anything just yet because if it comes down to it and I have to send the board out to be repaired they have a rule about not sending in boards with previous repairs.

                    Check with shopjimmy, it is quite possible one of the other boards they have would work

                      I wish they had my board, that one is the board ending in 001(056.04146.001), my board is the one ending in 000(056.04146.000).

                        It is possible that the number after the 056.04146 could be a revision number and a 001 could replace a 000

                          EDIT: I just read that note? where did you find that note at?

                          Possible, but I don't have that information. I did call and ask but the person I spoke with's knowledge was limited and could only say that if the board had a compatible part it would list the part number on that page. I even asked about the fact that on the page of the wrong board(001) it shows a compatible part number ending in 0001, which is how my board ends? but she said it doesn't work that way. I also used an online photo comparison site where you can overlay two photos and see the differences between them and the two boards are identical front and back. I asked her about this and she said the "L's" were not the same on both boards.

                          So are we saying I can't or shouldn't repair this board and should look into either getting a used/refurbished board or having mine repaired?

                            Well, if you are not willing to remove the parts to verify if the the parts are bad or not, then it is a waste of time to keep to troubleshooting the board. You know you already have blown part for sure already.

                                ZD909 = .000

                                  So ZD909 checked shorted out of circuit, It does'nt matter which leg you lift, It was nessesary because the two low ohm resistors are in parallel with it. It looks like the number is 4V7 that would be a 4.7 volt zener diode. Yes you can remove the ic

                                    Both the diode and the chip are off the board now. The diode has"4V7D NZ" written on it, I am not certain about the D.

                                    Are there any other components I should test before I order those parts?

                                      The number is likely NZ4V7D you can use a 1N4732A (4.7v 1watt) Just order a few in case there are other problems. hopefully this is all that is bad.

                                        Recheck R907A, R907B since ZD909 is no longer connected in parallel with the resistors any more, just to be sure.
