Recap of "The Best Power" MT-500P 500W PSU

Hi,

After my L&C PSU recapping, I decided to recap another PSU. This time, it's a PSU that is more worthy of a pre-emptive recapping. It's called "The Best Power" MT-500P, and it looks better than the L&C. Better heatsinks, more caps on the secondary side, and 470uf 200V caps on the primary side than 330uf 200V caps in the L&C.

Here is the list of cap replacements:

2 TEAPO 680uf 10V SC series 8MM caps - replaced with 2 Nichicon 1000uf 6.3V HE series 8MM caps.

2 TEAPO 1000uf 10V SEK series general-purpose 10MM caps - replaced with 2 SAMYOUNG 1500uf 10V LXV series 10MM caps.

1 TEAPO 2200uf 6.3V SEK series general purpose 10MM cap - replaced with United-Chemicon 2200uf 6.3V SXE series 10MM cap

1 TEAPO 470uf 10V SEK series general purpose 8MM cap - replaced with SANYO 470uf 10V WX series 8MM cap

1 TEAPO 1000uf 16V SEK series general purpose 10MM cap - replaced with United-Chemicon 1200uf 16V (don't know which series, will look later) 10MM cap

2 Fuhjyyu 220uf 16V (don't know which series, will look later) 8MM caps - replaced with 2 CapXon 220uf 16V KM series 8MM general purpose caps

2 Fuhjyyu 470uf 200V LP series primary caps - replaced with 2 TEAPO 470uf 200V primary caps (at least TEAPO caps fail less than Fuhjyyu caps)

Also, I refanned the PSU. It's a dual-fan PSU with 2 80x25MM fans, so I refanned it with suitable replacements.

1 Rulian Science 80x25MM sleeve-bearing fan (exhaust fan) - replaced with EVERCOOL EC8025H12B 80x25MM dual ball-bearing fan

1 Rulian Science 80x25MM sleeve-bearing fan (top intake fan) - replaced with StarTech Mutant Mods 80x25MM RED-LED dual ball-bearing fan (looks awesome when the PSU is on)

I'm curious about the Samyoung LXVs. I've got inexpensive Korea Chemicon LXVs (with a dot in the shield logo) sourced locally, and I'm convinced that they're actually Samyoung OEM based on the finish on the cap top, the indentation on the vent pattern, the 'S' lettering in the bottom rubber bung, and the printed font.

I'll update the thread if I see any premature failures within a year. What do your Samyoungs look like?

My SAMYOUNG caps are UCC cap look-alikes. The shield logo on them has the dot in it. The bung has a V on it, and it's the exact same style as a UCC cap I have. The vent is almost identical.

I got two pictures to compare between my SAMYOUNG cap and the UCC cap.

The Korea-Chemicon LXVs that I sourced are nearly identical in appearance to your Samyoung, including the deeper indentations in the vent, font, etc. This seems to suggests that Samyoung and Korea-Chemicon caps are produced in the same plant and only differ in branding.

its missing the line choke,x,and y caps.

I would like to add those x and y caps on that PSU. I just don't know which caps to use though. I'm thinking ceramic disc or flim.

This PSU is a Macron PSU, according to a search of its UL number (E199529). I heard Macron power supplies are good in build-quality.

I want to make this PSU better to replace that POS L&C 450W PSU that is currently still alive in my backup PC.
