    Help- Vizio VW42L HDTV10A

I have a VW42L HDTV10A Vizio. There is no sound, no picture and no back light. The unit powers up and the orange light turns white. All components in the TV are visually ok. I have tested all power supply pinouts. I have 24v, 12v and 5v. All my voltage regulators are testing perfectly. The only strange thing I can come up with, is that the small control board on the very top back of the TV. I almost have no voltage on that board. U9 on the that small control board only shows .5V on the source pin. I am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A clear focused picture following my sig file below exactly would help.

What is the part number of U9?

That small control board is called a t-con. There is usually a small smd fuse near the bottom connector (where the black tape is). It may be open?

Found it. It is marked TK, just above the black tape.

U9 is an adjustable low dropout regulator. Datasheet at

              http://www.alldatasheet.com/datashee...TC/RT9164.html

Obviously, if the fuse is blown, you won't get any voltages.

Ok so it is a 63V/1.5A fuse and it is good. I also have no power to it when the unit is powered on. I am guessing it gets its power from the main board?

Also this was a very sudden failure, so I didnt thing it could be the Tcon cable...

How are you testing it? Resistance measurement or voltage? If voltage, what is the DC voltage on either side of the fuse?

Resistance. Then I powered the unit and checked for power before and after the fuse - 0V

So you are getting no power at all now whereas before you had all the voltages?

Hmm, maybe power it off, unplug and let it sit for 30 minutes and try again. See if all your voltages are present on the power board like before and then measure the DC voltage of the fuse on the t-con. It should be either 5V or 12V DC.

I guess I misinterpreted. I still have all my voltages out of the power board. I just do not have power to the TCON board.

                            1) Okay, so if all the power is present, then what is the voltage if you put your black probe on a t-con ground screw and the red probe on one side of the fuse?

                            2) Now put your red probe on the other side of the fuse? What is the reading?

                            3) What ohms reading did you get for the t-con fuse?

Ok so testing how you said, I get 0V before the fuse and 0V after the fuse.

Resistance on the fuse is 00.1 ohms.

Also just so we are clear it looks like the TCON board should be getting power from the main control board. right? Thank you so far by the way

I believe the voltage to the t-con is being carried on the LVDS cable. I'm not 100% sure if it comes from the main board or power board. It may vary be design? Budm and tom66 know more about TVs than I do.

You can measure the LVDS cable to see if 5V or 12V is present on either end. Maybe there is a break in the cable?

Took your advice and measured voltage at the main control board where the Tcon cable is. I have no voltage on the main control board side. I checked my J1 cable coming in from the Power board and there is 12v and 5v present. So I am losing voltage somewhere in between. Any ideas?
