Recapping Sony ICF-SW55 - verifying cap values

    Dear reader

I am performing a repair on a Sony ICF-SW55, which includes recapping (some) of the SMD capacitors on the mainboard. I am looking for verification of their values. At the moment, I'm 95% sure I've got the right values, but it is hard to find some official, credible or multiple independant sources on this.

At the moment, I have selected replacements based on the following list of values:

    3 x 470uF 10VDC
    3 x 4.7uF 35VDC
    4 x 47uF 50VDC
    8 x 22uF 6.3 VDC
    1 x 220uF 6.3VDC
    5 x 100uF 6.3VDC

    Which is sourced from: https://sparedparts.com/products/68600276
These values seem to be correct when looking at the amount present of each value and guessing their related dimensions (lowest capacity values and voltage are the smallest, as well as the highest being the largest).

The printed text on the capacitor heads is as follows, in the same order:

3x -printed on cap itself without code, no mystery there-
    3x 4.7 35v 18d
    4x j2 47 6v
    8x 22 6v 18a
    1x j4 220 4v
    5x 1y 100 6.3

Some values correspond to the printed text, some do not or are counter-intuitive.

A second source sort of verifies 4/6 of all different types, but doesn't show all. Furthermore, it is just text on an image, which could have been interpreted incorrectly by the primary author.
    https://www.radio-bastler.de/forum/s....php?tid=14433

A third used source is a schematic of all components but that did not help that much as it also included other values, other than the ones in need of replacement, and isn't really clear on which is which (no Cxxx placement references on the PCB).

Sony service isn't much help either in this case.

Trying to identify based on printed values didn't work out for me.

Yes, I'm aware recapping kits exist. However, not many ELC SMD are available, and I'm not planning recapping with tantalums. Furthermore, given the current state of capacitor legitemacy (via eBay), I'd rather source my own via reputable sources. Plus, this give me the opportunity to place some better ones (e.g., 50VDC instead of 35VDC) and have some spares.

I have selected the following replacements, in the same order as listed above, with "low ESR" ratings where possible (TME because it's the only one with all in stock and delivers to individuals):
    https://www.tme.eu/nl/en/details/zsc...citors/vishay/
    https://www.tme.eu/nl/en/details/eee...ors/panasonic/
    https://www.tme.eu/nl/en/details/eee...ors/panasonic/
    https://www.tme.eu/nl/en/details/eee...ors/panasonic/
    https://www.tme.eu/nl/en/details/eee...ors/panasonic/
    https://www.tme.eu/nl/en/details/eee...ors/panasonic/

In closing, I'd like to ask if anyone can verify the list of values as posted in the beginning of this thread.

    Thank you in advance.

    Kind regards,

Re: Recapping Sony ICF-SW55 - verifying cap values

Back again. I have already ordered the parts and performing the repair. I have, however, stumbled upon a few exposed traces and one broken trace path (all a result of damage by leaking cap acid), so it's a bit more work than I had anticipated.

Anyway, a few days ago I found a new source, one I hadn't found before, listing a more complete service manual than found on elektrotanya and radiomuseum etc.
    https://www.petervis.com/manuals/son.../icf-sw55.html
Thanks to this upload I was able to verify the values.

I have included a PDF file with the relevant schematic and component numbers, including values.

This schematic also showed me a hidden cap, on the left bottom hidden behind a metal shield. The value of this cap is 47uF 6.3VDC, named j2 47 6v. That makes a total of 25 instead of 24 SMD elco caps fit for replacement.

For anyone interested, the original values, according to that service manual, are as follows:
    • 22uF 6.3V
    • 4.7uF 35V
    • 100uF 6.3V
    • 470uF 10V
    • 220uF 4V
    • 47uF 6.3V

For anyone interested, I have ordered the following parts:
    • ZSC00AG4711CARL
    • EEEFK1H4R7R
    • EEEFK1H470XP
    • EEEFK0J220AR
    • EEEFK0J221P
    • EEEFK0J101AP

This is brilliant, just bought a SW55 that requires recapping and to find this information is invaluable. I also going to replace the Super Capacitor which is this part from the TME website KR-5R5H224-R. All I am looking for now is a replacement LED for the side lit display?

        Sony KDL-46HX850 Can't upgrade/update firmware
        by dkneyle
Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about...
