[pics] GA-7VRX and a blown square black thing (replaceable?)

Check out my picture. I can get more if needed.
GA-7VRX rev 2.0 with bulged caps and a blown part.

Is it possible to replace the black thing?

I also have another question which I might have to post as a separate topic. I got another Gigabyte board (my 4th and last!) which is a GA-7N400 Pro 2 (rev2.0) which makes VERY annoying whistling noises when Graphics/on-board Network card is under heavy load - coil buzz I think, but I can not locate or stop it.

    maybe.
post a close up of the black thing.
    does the board still post?
i see a lot of these with blown caps and most are repairable.

      Here we go

I also had a power supply explode a few days after this with a similar blown part - different computer though.

Oh, I do not know if it POSTs or not, I don't think it does but I can't remember if I checked and I can't really check very easily.

          thats a mosfet.
          part of the vrm.
with a bit of luck thats all it needs.the 3 unburned are the same.
worst case is it dumped +5 or +12 into the cpu core and mem and killed everything.

            Righto.

The RAM and CPU were fine, I moved them to another board.

What is the Mosfet part I need. one of these mosfets?

Is this suitable to replace the 1000uF 6.3v capacitors? possible 1000uF unit[/url

Should I also replace the two bulged green caps? I know they are also 6.3v but I dont know what their uF rating is unless I take them off.

Does it matter if you use 1000uF 10V to replace a 1000uF 6.3V ? is that better or worse than the original?

in a pinch the 10v caps will be fine.
all caps 1000> mfd should be replaced.
i keep scrap boards around as organ donors so i dont buy any of those mosfets.
                try digikey.

Yeah, that's a blown MOSFET, but as kc8adu says, it may still work, provided when the MOSFET failed it didn't hurt anything else. Soldering those on is a pain though, as the tab is soldered directly to the board, and it requires a good bit of heat, and MOSFET's dont' tolerate a lot of heat when soldering.
