Default Sony XBR-65X900H vertical lines

I have acquired a Sony XBR-65X900H to try and fix. It probably was a complete no power situation. The main board was replaced and the TV started turning on. I now have start sounds and backlights, but no image. I've replaced the t-con with no improvement. Cables all appear to be ok and seated properly. The TV took a firmware update and hard reset but neither helped.

Using the tape trick I can get both side to display combinations of colored vertical lines. There is no change in the stripes and the pattern always appears the same. If I add additional tape strips I can get the screen to go grayish with less pronounced lines.

Any other ideas? Bad panel?

I mean sounds like bad panel. I'm learning here also, but tcon replaced and lines still. Lines are most likely panel.

Might have gotten a bad tcon board but you may want to check the buffer boards for shorted caps or diodes also. Have seen this on a few Samsung TVs where diodes go bad.

If neither of those most likely mainboard emmc or the main processor is shorted. Real common on Sonys

I believe Nicks TVs YouTube channel shows which caps to measure for the emmc and processor for this model.

Make sure the replacement mainboard is not a mismatch, have seen many bad tcons display like this.

Boards appear to match based on what is available on ShopJimmy. I've attached pictures. The top boards are the original and the bottom ones are the replacements which are currently installed.

Am I correct in assuming the EMMC is good on the replacement considering I have an optical light and setup/menu noises after a factory reset?

I can try another TCON but was just debating how likely that is actually the culprit.

No expert but I don't think you would get that image if bad eMMC, maybe test the tcon, they sold a lot of these xbr's, many good tcon testing videos on youtube.

Here's some pictures not sure what type of detail you were looking for. I can get better close ups if needed.

What makes you think it was worked on before and how does a VA panel make you think it's a buffer problem?

Hi dustman.. my guess is that you have good Panel/tcon and only fault was main board, Sony tv needs a pairing procedure after mb or tcon replacement, now i'm on work, i hope at home i manage to find something in my notes on how to.. if you are in a hurry check my last discussions on a Sony this year.. I've talked about it with Lotas.. bye..

you have U ribbon cable on each side at the panel buffer boards.... disconnect one a time and turn on... show us the result photo

BTW this test should all yours perviouse masking / type remove it... let the set as original only the U ribbon disconnected

The only change I could get was with entire left side unplugged and the right side U cable also unplugged. A picture is attached, boards are disconnected at the arrows. It results in a black pattern.

I've done a lot of digging on this pairing process and haven't found anything about these models. The other models appeared to have a specific error code via the front lights for mismatched boards. I've done software updates on it twice now and neither time did it change the results.

wrong,,, the ribbon cable between t-con and panel should be always in place... only you test the U ribbon at buffer boards disconnected each time one side of left side and right side... you have 2 U riboon alone

also your masking type you did before should take out... and feed it to signal.. not just blank screen

All of the tape is removed. I have a chromecast connected. The TV seems to be in the initial setup menus based on the audio, so I cannot be sure of the image but there should at least me a menu.

I did as you advised:
Right U ribbon disconnected, all others connected - Black screen with no changes
Left U ribbon disconnected, all others connected - Black screen with no changes

i have found this on my notes file:

Sony smart tv (not Android) forced update mode (with board pairing, not well tested):
1- Put an update file on a flash drive with state led
2- rename it as upgrade_loader.pkg
3- put flash drive in tv, plug the power in when keep pressing power button on local keys, it brings to a different state with blue led steady in standby
position, releasing the button and pressing it again brings to a pulsating white led, wait flashdrive led to stop after few pulses, remove power, reinsert
it, white led does 3 - pause - 7 pulses, then turn on with local key, tv turns on with backlight an maybe an image

When trying to update, try not to use anything bigger than a 4 gig drive, sonys can be very fussy.
