Looked under there they appear ok touched them with multi meter on diode mode and got a drain (Admittedly dont know what i is doing but they reacted)
My boy tells me he was using the board when a sorta blue screen event happened and a bios message appeared before it stopped
It probably said "Yer screwed"

When you're testing the diodes, you should get a reading one way but not the other. If you get a shorted reading, that may well be what your problem is.

I have an early Gigabyte 945 board that refuses to turn on, I thought the blown KZG cap was the cause but it's still the same. I need to investigate more, perhaps another cap is shorted or there's an issue with one of the mosfets.

It was running but not posting before when I had 3 2200uf 10v caps in the 1500uf 16v position
It was TRYING to post if I used a video card but no sign of life from the onboard
Is it possible one of the new 1500uf caps is dud? (Samxon)

How do you know the 16v caps didn't have 12v running through them?
Put at least the correct voltage in and try again.

You did use low ESR caps, yes?
Where were they purchased from?

Sorry you have lost me there. I put the 3 x 16v caps in where you described them

You put 1500 uF caps instead of 2200 uF?

I put in the proper 1500uf 16v caps in place of the 2200uf 10v caps that I had tried because I thought the cap values in that position were 6.3v and there were no 10mm 3300uf caps available in OZ
I guess something got fritzed?

Does it have bad caps?
Are you sure your CPU works?

Yes i have a selection of P4' all good
The caps look fine no domes or squidgy stuff leaking out.
This is the third 661 series board I've come across does this
I also have a 667 dual bios board thats crapped out dong the same thing

Can't say I've experienced these issues.
As you know, I have one of these boards like you, but has its 1000uf 6.3v Nichions failed.

I also have quite a few of these boards in LGA775 variants. Only thing that fails on these are the Chemicon KZG for those that have them. Others have Rubycon.

No, I have no need for the board, so it's sitting doing nothing.
It does work, was giving interesting disk related errors - I suspect those caps are related.

8S661FXMP-RZ P4 spent a bit of time with it , I reckon it was booting with no video (keys and mouse lit and nice beep at start.
So I cleaned a sticky pad off the on board VGA terminal hooked it up and away it flew.It doesnt seem to want to run with a video card in the AGP ot PCI (tried several known good ones)

Surely it was giving you a POST beep then... or did you not have a speaker hooked up?

No sean did not have speaker hooked up until I suspected it was booting. Am learning, you can waste a lot of time omitting small things

One of the motherboards where Gigabyte decided onboard buzzers weren't necessary
I scavenge speakers out of all old cases and keep a box of them for hooking up to mobos when testing.

Just out of interest as an exercise would it work to solder in a buzzer where there is position for one on a board? I notice a few are sans buzzers.

And as an aside why do you think the board wont run video in the AGP or PCI slots?
