    CHEMI-CON 4700uF AH Alternatives ?

    Hello Forum

Looking for advice ... need to find an alternate Capacitor so I can replace four:

Bulging Chemi-Con 4700uF, AH Series, 50V DC, 85c, 28mm x 45mm Radial Electrolytic Capacitors installed in a decent Audio Amplifier Power Supply.

I have searched for anything more about the 'AH' Series ..but found nothing...they must be a special for the Amplifier Im thinking.

What is the best Capacitor that I could replace these with ?

    Thanks in advance.

you dont really need to search "AH", the fact that they are rated at 85' means they are just general purpose crap.
all decent caps are rated for 105'

More modern series of capacitors will be often smaller for the same capacity and voltage rating, so you can also choose to go with 63v rated capacitors (next voltage rating above 50v)
Since it's a 85c capacitor, it's just a general purpose capacitor, nothing special about it.
No need to go with ultra low esr series of capacitors, just go with something more common.
      Some suggestions... : https://www.digikey.com/short/ph1qv5

Majority of those there will do.. I've filtered to show only 105c rated capacitors, with 50v or 63v rated voltage, 4700uF in capacitance. Some are "snap in" capacitors, not leaded..so if you decide to go with snap in make sure the holes are in the correct spacing and all that.

Also considering it's for an audio amplifier, you will probably be just fine with the next standard value up in capacitance, 5600uF... here's some that would work : https://www.digikey.com/short/ph18t5

Ty Mariushm very helpful!... I will have to check to see if a Snap-in will fit...will remove an existing Cap and have a look. Cheers

With Chemi-Con, 85C "general purpose crap" is high grade "crap". And the 50V rating is an indicator that it was in something several decades old. All in all, you likely will be able to find a suitable general purpose 105C, 63V part. Do stick with a good brand like Chemi-Con, Nichicon, Panasonic, or Rubycon.

            Thanks Pete

The unit is 2003 so you are spot on.

What decade/years did Snap In capacitors start being used? do you know... curious and thinking as the unit is so old they might be Radial Through Hole Caps.!?

snap-in's have always been arround, they are just a type.
you have wire ended, then snap-in and then the big cans with tags/bolts.

a way to spot the difference, snap-in's have 10mm spacing between the pegs abd they are not straight wires.

                Thankyou

Found Spacing is 10mm so snap in should fit.

remove the old one to check - snap-in have large holes for the snap-in clips.
