JBL Car Amp Culb-4505 going into protective mode shut down

This is my son power amp in his car this amp is a little over a year old

This just start a couple a week ago this —>

The amp work for about 5 minuets then the red LED light comes and is in protection mode

The switching power supply has no problem right now powering the amp Putting out 10 amp

I ran the amp with sub only then rear only then front only and when I got to front only at very loud play with the amp taking maximum from my 10 amp switching power supply that I had posted because it was having problems

The two caps that are marked with red circle are the caps that when pushing 10 amps start to get very warm

The four caps that are marked green circle get a little warm when pushing 10 amp

The four big caps marked in blue also get a little warm when pushing 10 amps


The 6 device that are on the heat sink gets a little warm when pushing 10 amps

What brand and series of caps should I put in this amp

The caps that are getting very warm are the caps that might be put it in the protection mode
Because as soon as you turn the volume down and pull less amperage the caps cool down very quickly

same series better quality ..

It sounds very good it just goes into the protection mode and turn off the sound
When all channels are hooked up and running is when it goes into the protection mode
Let be off for a few minutes and come right back on

Now just running the front or rear or sub output one at time it will keep running with no problem

When you say better quality are you talking Low ESR value caps

Here is the capacitor that I think I can use as replacements
The reason for choosing these is because of height ( the maximum height is 35mm )and diameter space is a real problem in this amp

Are these caps the right choice

Here is the capacitor that I think I can use as replacements
The reason for choosing these is because of height ( the maximum height is 35mm )and diameter space is a real problem in this amp

TM series Yuscon capacitors the maximum diameter is 16mm and this would be very tight fit
There is a correction for this one I have use this one instead

SK series Yuscon capacitors maximum diameter is 22mm X maximum length 35mm this might be pushing it

I can NOT find any capacitors that the length or diameter will fit with this value 2200uf@80 volts
Does anyone have any idea my son does NOT want to cut the cover for them to fit
( I cannot find any in the 22mm diameter no matter the length)

Does anyone know where to get Yuscon capacitors these would be the only ones that I would replace with exact same company and only because of the size and UF and voltage

I see two sizes of snap-in caps. It looks like the two bigger ones are 2200uF 80V and the smaller ones are 3300uF 35V.

Those Yuscon datasheets are really confusing. There are two rows of numbers marked "Parameters," and they don't tell you what they are. I see that they make a lot of the same series as Fujicon, but their specs are more believable.

The smaller ones that are Yuscon 3300uf@35 volts I look at them wrong I thought they were also 80 volts as well thanks for pointing that out to me

I have found a capacitor for the 2200uf@80 volts that the data sheet says one measurement and DigiKey has a slightly different measurement 25mm X 37mm

The parts number LGU1K222MELA says 25mm X 35mm

Yes there is enough battery power in the car to power it ( and yes my son like to play his music loud)

like said in the first post this started about 2 weeks ago
that it started going into the protection mode after playing for about 5 minuets

Like also said that after playing on my 10 amp switching power supply with the volume up enough to pull about 10 amps on just the front speakers the two capacitors that are 470uf@80 volts gets very very warm to the touch not hot enough where you can not touch ( you do not expect this to happen) [ now if you turn down the volume so that it only pulling about 3 to 4 amp the capacitors cool down very fast
when there in no volume then it is only pulling about 1.7 amps or so

Now how hot it gets when all five channels are running is a hole another matter

The device under the wider heat sink gets a little warm ( which you expect ) when you are pushing 10 amp with the volume turn up until you start reaching the 10 amp mark

Now the narrow heat sink barely gets warm no matter how loud you have the volume

Yes they have some 2200uf@80 volts but do not the right size which is the problem

Either the diameter or the length or both is to much and space is the problem

The one that is 3300uf @ 35 volts is either 12 or 14 mm X 30
The other one that 2200 @ 80 volts is either 14 or 16 mm X 30

I have some that should fit even if I have to put a washer between the cover and the base of the amp housing so there is enough clearance

The capacitors came in the mail yesterday I put the caps
I was a real dumb a** ( this must have been a brain fart) I put one of the 2200uf@80 volts in backwards the amperage was 10 amps @ 9 volts and the capacitor got a little warm I shut it off quickly and tried it again samething again I look at the capacitor for the negative line on the board and when o sh** turn off again

Took the capacitor out and check it seems to be ok check it with a capacitor checker and my ESR meter and also put voltage on the capacitor to 50 volts DC and everything looks good ( yes this time I put it in the right way)

Powered the amp back up again it works good enough to blow one of my speakers after playing it very loud for about 20 minuets

It sound loader than it did before however the two 470uf capacitors still gets very warm when pushing 10 amps from the switching power supply that I am using
The same two caps that were getting real warm before ( new ones) are getting real warm it just takes longer to get that way

The two difference size snap in caps were also getting warm as well now with the new snap in caps do get a little warm but not as warm the other snap in caps I could not find one that would fit so I use two 1500uf@35 volts I know it does not add up to 3300uf

Is there anything thing that I can do about the capacitors getting really very warm and this with only the front channels running ( what I use is two nichicon HE 470uf@100 volts) this is the only one that I could find that would fit this was a very tight fit by the way

I will find out tomorrow just how warm these two capacitors gets when I hook all the channels back up and run it as loud as my son like play it

And see if it still going into the protection mode or not
