HP EliteBook 855 G7 Bios unlock

    Hi,

    I have a EliteBook 855 G7 here,
took a dump from both Winbond Bios Chips.

Is it enough to remove the Password section from the bottom bios chip?
Or does the EEPROM on the top side have to be modified as well?

    Thanks in advance!

      Thanks Maxpower3...but

Is it possible that my solder connection of the top EEPROM is now bad?

Or is it likely something else?

It also displays something about "Protected by HP Sure Start" or something like that when powered on.

          Nope, does not help.

Also restoring my original backup does not restore the previous status without this error.

1 flash 16MB with a good one (no backup password inside)
2 FLASH 32MB WITH CLEAN R70(extracted from bios update exe file) BIOS REGION using intel FIT ( you should get manufacturing programming mode at this step)
3 FLASH ORIGINAL 32MB UNLOCKED by RethoricalCheese Unlocker
dycc seems to describe here what might help, but I think I don't know where to get the good ones from...

          The mainboard is a 6050A3200201-MB-A01(A1)

extract the 16MB bios from the update on the site and write it on the 16MB chip, and for the 32MB bios ..cut from the original 16MB bios and, join the 16MB bios extracted from the site with the HxD program and try ..

              thanks @peste,

but I actually don't have a 16mb chip. At least I'm not aware of it and can't find another eeprom.

I have located two Winbond 25Q256... chips with 32mb each so far.

One on the bottom (U367) and one the top (U365/U366).

I extracted the S77_01030100.bin from the HP support site...but the included bin has 37.8mb, which is more than my 32mb chip.
Do I have to remove parts of this bin or extract it some other way?

@peste, could you please give me another hint?
Do I need a special tool to extract the bios from the update?

855 is AMD so it is a bit different. Extract 32MB from update and write it on both chips, I guess. You could read both chips and take a look what they contain, then you might know whats the right thing to do.

Honestly I didn't try to update it before, but can try if I get it back into a running state.
                        Yes it's an AMD CPU.

all you need is the HxD program.
Ok, but the firmware.bin from the HP bios update is still about 4mb to big for my bios chips.

855 is AMD so it is a bit different. Extract 32MB from update and write it on both chips, I guess. You could read both chips and take a look what they contain, then you might know whats the right thing to do.
I checked the contents a bit and it seems to me that the last 4mb contain some things regarding webcam stuff...maybe an appended firmware update or something like that.
Did you encounter something like that before?
So I cut the trailing 4mb off and flashed that to both chips.
All the laptop did was blinking yellow...

Now I'm not able to flash U367 anymore with my probe...will try to desolder it tomorrow.
Could I have burned something with my previous test?

Next step will be to flash both of my backups back and see if I can get it back into its original state. But then I'm kind of out of ideas again.

Okay, flashed back my backups, that I took before doing anything at all with this laptop...

Not it starts up again...don't know what was wrong yesterday, I guess it was too late.

                          * HP Logo with "Secured by HP Sure Start" is displayed
                          * Info screen "the last steps of a bios update are in progress..."
                          * Error Page " / There is a problem with the HP Endpoint Security Controller on this unit...contact support...

If I press ESC now I can access the Bios (don't actually know why the password is gone), can disable and reset everything regarding security and stuff, but it keeps showing that "HP Endpoint Security Controller Problem" after every start.

                          Any Ideas?
