Re: Help with Motor Control Board

Just closing down for tonight and the picture for budm of the top of the board flashed up
and whilst i had not noticed before is there a hole in the top of one of the BIG caps?
May be just dust showing up odd in the picture or the hole may only be in the plastic top
but maybe have a close look?
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

No that hole is the screw hole into the mounting board. I could only find the one 24v 5w diode. Everywhere I went they were out of the smaller 5v 1w diode. I even asked if they had a 2 or 5 watt but no luck so I have to either order one or drive 25 miles to another store.

I picked up the NTE5137A but couldn't find the NTE5116A.

So the C15PH is a 15v not a 5. Maybe I'll be in luck and they will have that one.

          c15 = 15v usually.

Ok thanks, I'll look for a 15v 5w zener then.

You might also what to check out the wire wound power resistor next to the zener diodes. I do not know the values they should be. It could had burnt out or the value could have changed. There seems to be a black mark by the one.

btw, if the zeners are getting hot you should mount the new ones a few mm above the board so air can circulate under them.

Ok I was able to find the smaller 15v zener. These are both larger in size then the ones I removed, would that matter other then the fact it would be a tighter fit in the board? If not I'll get to soldering.

Getting excited hoping this works. One more question, as you can see in the photo one of the diodes does not have a stripe so the arrow with the line represents negative side correct? Also if I put them both on with the negative on the same side then you can see in the one picture that the DZ4 negative connects up to DZ1 positive correct?

"one of the diodes does not have a stripe so the arrow with the line represents negative side correct?" Correct.
" you can see in the one picture that the DZ4 negative connects up to DZ1 positive correct?" Cathode of DZ4 is connected to the Anode of DZ1.
The BAR on the pointing end of the Triangle is the Cathode.

yes that is correct solder them in the same way you have them lined up in pic 1 onto the board the same way

BTW, the pads on the board for DZ1 and DZ4 Cathode look damaged, make sure you do have good connection since they run hot.

I checked the pads and they were ok at least by a continuity check. I installed the diodes but unfortunately it still doesn't work. Removed the board and the diodes still read 530 and 632 so at least I didn't blow them I don't think.

I can hardly wait!! I have one of these (different make/model/ and boards) but similar
symptoms. Main problem is it has a dc motor with a voltage higher than I can test it.
No burning smell though. Collecting info on it at the moment then will be back for help.
Catch 22 - wife says no way is that coming into the house unless it is working and I cant fix it where it is ,so it is -stuck in my sons garage- I will get round and get pictures
and start a new thread. I suspect/hope it is one of the sensors adrift.

oh: started watching tv so posted late - back to the drawing board eh.

i had one a while back with a dead encapsulated transformer on it driving (or not driving!) the digital parts.

btw, have you noticed how shity NTE rebaged parts always look!
i would never touch them, people blame the chinese for re-printing onto junk, but NTE did it first!!

Have you at any time taken a voltage reading on the BIG caps?.
May be of course that if that relay doesnt work it never switches on?
Can you apply 24v externally to the relay and see if it clicks or if the
110 v contacts close (meter on ohms)
