Re: Asus X401A, crazy touchpad...and I now know why

Well i'm back, six years later. With another X401a, given to me by somebody else. A touchpad working the same way again.

I now have more power adapters. Still the same, damn, thing.

I can keep one finger on the touchpad completly still, and the cursor starts shaking around 2-3mm from the point

I unplug the adapter and go on battery...works fine. Back in...starts shaking.

Is it, just he power in the house? It was built in 2000. Wiring well grounded. No other problems with ANY other laptops or PC's i've worked on in this house

I'm just, going insane again. Guess i'll take this to someones houes and it will work perfectly.

      can ANYONE explain this?

You have the last version of bios?
And, you have installed the driver for touchpad, from asus support website?
From my experience, this 2 points have to be accomplished if you have problem with perfect functionality of your touchpad.

Re: Asus X401A, crazy touchpad...and I now know why

This one is installed with windows 10. Last one was windows 7. There is no 8/10 driver from the asus site. Though it is synapitics so i'll probably try that one next.

          Still. Works fine on battery.

Re: Asus X401A, crazy touchpad...and I now know why

Well the pink one has a screen cracked to hell. But I was able to see the right side of it, and, yeah. Mouse shivering on this one too

Also my sister gave me a bag with most of the original adapters for these.

The original asus power adapter does the same thing on both
So does a 180w HP for a much larger laptop
A stupid rocketfish bb 95w adapter
                A targus 95w adapter

You guys have no idea how ridiculous this is getting

That model laptop perhaps doesn't have as good a filtering as it could and your electricity isn't as clean as it could be.

you would think, right? I've repaired many laptops from gaming to 11" netbooks with nothing randomly acting up. As well as our electronics, rokus, tv's, pretty much everything else

That laptop and your electricity. 3 identical laptops and it only does it at your house.

I just hooked it to my UPS and it still did it. Shouldn't a UPS even plugged in clean the power up some?

                          Can be grounding/earthing issue.

I am going to sell the pink one for cheap (with a mouse so she can use it without the messed up touchpad). Upgraded the cpu to a 2020m (had lying around from upgrading my mothers top to an ivy bridge i5). It's almost the highest this chipset can take (2030 is the highest). Got a cheap silicon power ssd (with decent ratings). Win 10. Runs great

Problem. The keyboard is messed up. Its melded to the palmrest. Found a video that shows how at attach a new one. Better and cheaper than getting a new palm rest from china. Anyone ever done this before?

                                    is it carcinogenic?

I see I have to use my iron, I'm guessing on a pretty low tempeture

I don't have a rework blower, but I have a heat gun, so low setting?

He had to heat the back adhesive cover to get it to pull off

Re: Asus X401A, crazy touchpad...and I now know why

Well I did it and it was fairly successful. When I get the lid fully down, it doesn't boot. When it's loose, it does.

the sticker C.daniel mentioned above is hardly staying on. I'm guessing something is shorting. I got a little adhesive and it's keeping over that loose space

One thing mentioned above is that sticker being responsible for the touchpad issues. Well, I would say maybe except we forget one thing. It ONLY does it when the power is plugged in. On battery, the touchpad acts like it should. I might have traced a possibility, but have no way of fixing it, or even tracing down the specifics of the problem. Again, it does it ONLY when it's plugged in...
