    Samsung LN46C630K1F power board capacitor

Hello all. My brother in law had his Samsung LN46C630K1F tv go out on him. He said he was watching it when all of a sudden it started smoking and went out. He turned it off and back on and got nothing. So he gave it to me to try to save.

I took the back off hoping to find an obvious bad capacitor, but all looked good. I plugged the TV in to see what it did. When I plugged it in, all was fine. When I turned it on, the TV attempts to light up the display, it flickers a brief second of light before quitting and staying black. But about 5 seconds after this attempt I realized smoke was coming from the back of the TV and I looked and found the small ceramic disc capacitor it was coming from.

So now I think I need to replace this capacitor, but I'm not sure what size it is. There doesn't appear to have been a label on it, or if there was it burned off. None of the other similar looking ones on the board have labels either. However, the area on the PCB where the pins of the capacitor poke through to connect to the traces is labeled CP820. I've attached a photo of the power board with the capacitor in question circled with a yellow highlighter.

Can anyone help me find a replacement part for this? And if you have any other advice I'm all ears. I don't have much experience with TV repair, but I've got a lot of experience with soldering parts onto boards and all kinds of other things electrical. I'm hoping nothing else on the TV is fried and I can pick one of these caps up for a dollar or two somewhere and be on my way to fixing this thing up.

Its more than likely the same as the other ones in the area.

Does your PSU have the part #: BN44-00341B

Here is a schematic for it and CP820 is 1KV 220pf
      same as CP813.

      Digikey part #: 445-15974-ND

Yep that is the part number on the power board. Thanks so much for confirming as well as providing that schematic. I'll order one and see if that fixes it.

BTW, this board is know for having low PFC Boosted Voltage problem that causes the backlights to flicker on and off, there are lots of so called fix by cutting the jumper J852 is for low PFC Voltage shutdown protection circuit, the real cause of the low PFC boosted Voltage is due to feedback resistor network that drift in value.
Capacitor CI818 is also known to go bad (bulging side when it is bad).

I found another thread around here that talked about replacing CP820 with a 2KV 220pf capacitor. Maybe that is why, but I'm not sure.

Are you saying I may just need a new power board?

You can check the rest of the parts in that section and replace that blown snubber cap, you will not know if it has other problems until you replace the known bad part first.
If you do not want to fix the board then buy the known working replacement board, its your choice.

well I'm happy to report that after replacing the capacitor with a 2KV 220pf one I got off amazon the TV is up and running again. Thank you all for your help. Very appreciated.
