1706b No power, no led light

    1706b No power, no led light

    One of my Acer AL1706b monitors finally died recently. After doing some research here and elsewhere on the internet I'm not sure how to proceed from here.

    After checking the T2A/250VAC fuse I moved onto the 82uF 450V capacitor (170V). Then the wires heading from the power board (ILPI-003 REV:C - 2006.06.19) to the logic board.

    From bottom to top the wires are:
    1.VCC5V - 5V
    2.VCC5V - 5V
    3.GND - 0V
    4.BRIGHTNESS - 0V
    5.ON/OFF - 0V
    6.GND - 0V

    Assuming that's what they should be I moved onto the logic board. After reading PlainBill's Post in a different thread I took down the following readings:
    U101:
    1. 0V
    2. 1.27V
    3. 5V
    U102:
    1. 0V
    2. 1.85V
    3. 5.2V

    After consulting page 5 (or 44) of AL1706x.pdf I was lead to believe these are not the correct voltages for these regulators. Could it be as simple as replacing these two regulators?

    I got excited that perhaps I would just be able to short or remove U406 (Reset Controller) however that component would not appear to be present on my board.

    I'm not sure how to proceed from here but I'm sure the vast knowledge of the internet will point me in the next direction! Thanks in advance for any help or guidance anyone can offer me. Also, sorry for the blurry pictures, my camera is very sad. I can have my friend take far better pictures if necessary.

    What is the part number for U101 and U102 on your board? If it is something like AL1117-33, the suffix (33) denotes the output voltage. If that is the case, then pin 2 at 1.27 V has failed.

      U102 has part number A1 AS1117L-18 B0548. Pin 2 is reading 1.78 V.
      U101 has part number A1 AS1117L-33 B0551. Pin 2 is reading 1.27 V.

      Thanks for the info. After re-reading Bw1's post I realize now I have an identical issue. I wish the op of that thread had posted whether or not a new U101(1117L-33) had solved his problem or not. I'm going off now looking for this part in my junk boxes.

      If I have no experience soldering where should I start? I imagine I should practice on some junk boards removing and adding components. Can someone point me to a clear guide on this? Also my only tool for this would be a 30 watt wood burner, with "soldering" tip. Would this tool be a good tool for this job?

        YouTube videos are a good source for learning how to do something. Enter "how to solder" on the serach box and pick a video that's you're comfortable with.

        I would suggest using at least a 40W soldering iron, since the tab of the regulator is soldered to the board and requires a bit more heat to dislodge. RadioShack is acceptable for purchasing soldering products. Cheaper on Ebay if you're willing to wait.
